You would probably laugh after reading this post – when i went to the testing center at 2 (an hour before my “scheduled” time) the moderator said there are no more candidates scheduled for the day. Turns out my exam was at 13:00 and due to all the stress surrounding the exam…i had for some reason seen 3 only. so for a weeks i believed that was my scheduled time and didn’t bother re-checking. I sent an email to NASBA to check if they can reset my eligibility to take the exam hopefully in a week. Expecting their response tomorrow.

Ouch.. that stinks. I hope they get it sorted out for you quickly. You're not the only one to make a silly mistake though!

I almost drove to my test center without my notice to schedule for my last exam. I somehow forgot to print it and as I was on my way out of town, I thought of it and dropped by my work to print it out. I live 2.5 hours away from the testing center so it would have been a total nightmare if I hadn't remembered at the last minute!

I felt really unprepared though. I was set to take FAR, and didn't want to reschedule. i was doing some last minute cramming this morning when the testing center called me to tell me that there were open spots and i could take the exam earlier than 1. But the call just added to my nervousness and i did not comprehend what she just said. So i heard, you can take the exam early around 1 pm. And i told her yes but i am doing some last min prep so i might need my time. on the brighter side…i could possibly get one more week extension (please dont remind me of the registration fee)

If it makes you feel any better, I ran out of gas on my way to the REG test last May. I had a 2 hour drive to the nearest testing center and the night before I filled up my truck with gas…so I thought. Like you, I had all sorts of test material and anxiety rattling around in my head. Turns out, I put the pump in the tank and started washing my windshield but never actually started the pump. Long story short, I ran out of gas on the interstate about 45 minutes from the testing center. Hitched a ride from a state patrolman for some fuel. Got to the test center an hour late, but they let me take it anyway. Ended up passing too. Go figure.

Good luck with the NASBA response.

@RedRage00 – I've gotten really good and looking at flash cards and driving at the same time.

Looked at the front of the flash card for a second, then recited the definition/notes that I had on the back while I was looking at the road. If I felt like I knew the note card well, I threw it in a bag. Rinse and repeat.

Every time I had to leave comments for the survey at the end of the CPA exam, I complained about having to drive so far to test. We even have a prometric testing center where I live… they just wouldn't let me take the CPA exam there.

Yeah it was definitely stressful, but passing the test made it all worthwhile. I guess everyone is entitled to a brainfart now and then, but talk about bad timing.

Also, I can't believe you have a prometric center where you live, but you can't test there. That's crazy. I'm out in western Nebraska so its understandable that I would have to drive quite a ways to get to a prometric center. To have one in my town and not be able to test there…that's frustrating.

Question for you: How long and how did you prepare for the BEC exam the second time you took it? I got a 69 the first time and am taking again on the 17th, but I want to make sure I'm adequately prepared. Thanks.

@NECain – I think that I spent about 6 weeks studying for my second BEC attempt. I switched study guides, so I basically started all over again with my studying. I was using ExamMatrix at first and I switched to CPAexcel. I also used Jeff's Ninja Notes. Jeff's notes are really good for BEC.

For all of the parts that I passed (besides FAR, which was before I had perfected my study method), I had a binder in which I put the Ninja Notes. Then I used CPAexcel and printed up any of the study material that I needed more information on. I made notes all over the ninja notes and stuff that I had printed. I also did every CPAexcel assignment. Most of my notes were made on notecards. I carried the notecards around with me all the time and used them often. For the last week before studying, I took several practice exams (via CPAexcel) and would go through every question after I finished. I'd read all of the questions, even the ones that I got correct. If I got one wrong or I wasn't sure about it, I wrote down the explanation. If I was really weak in an area, I'd go back to the section in CPAexcel and do some studying. Then I'd take another exam. Kept doing that until the day before exam day.

Hope this helps. It took me a really long time to figure out how to study for these exams! Good luck on your test!!

I was an hour late and was hoping the moderator would allow me to take it. But she said she was alone and would not be staying over time..blah blah. I just wanted to give it shot and not have to look at the thickest book for CPA. Still no response from NASBA. I got a reply yesterday asking me to remind him today.

Earlier this year I was on my way to take BEC on 2/28…the last day in the window. That was when the freeways in Ohio were flooded and silly me takes crazy back ways and called prometric who have the ok to be a little late. Completely threw me off and mentally screwed with me.

After I took the exam I found out I could of rescheduled. I thought, “figures.”

Thankfully, I passed with a strong mid 80's.
