Is there a time-limit between tests for candidates? - Page 4

I tried to find it on the Texas Board of Public Accountancy site, but no luck. I am pretty sure I sat for my last test at the very end of 2012. So, I’m wondering, is there a certain amount of time in which I must schedule and take my next test? It seems like a buddy of mine told me a long while back that you must test at least once before 2 years since your last test date. Can someone please help me out with what the official rule is on this?

    Thanks in advance!

Ah, so OH is another state that gives you until the end of the window. I don't know that it's unfair exactly– you're already getting an extra month or so over what most people get, since you took it in January. But it is weird that you can't test in the last month your score is valid.

In OH, you apparently don't get 18 months, you get 6 additional testing windows to pass the rest. Interesting!

4701-5-06 “A candidate who earns initial conditional credit on one or more subjects of the uniform CPA examination during the same examination window must complete the remaining subject or subjects of the examination within the six examination windows following that examination window.”

FAR 83 (5/21/14-the above + NINJA 10 Pt Combo Lite)
    REG 84 (7/9/14-Wiley books/TB + NINJA Audio/FC/Notes)
    BEC 76 (10/5/14-Wiley books/TB + NINJA Audio/FC)

A testing window included the black out month so one testing window = 3 months and 6 testing windows is ~18 months.

I really do consider myself lucky that my first passing exam to my last was 10 days shy of a year and I didn't even have to consider the expiration dates despite failing several times.

mla, I know that it matters for a retake if you lose the first passed section due to the 18 month expiration… but it doesn't matter if you don't lose the first passed section and can pass the whole exam within 18 months.. I thought about adding an extra sentence explaining that, but I thought it was implied from my first post. The exam is old news for me too.

    mla-

It looks like you took my approach to these tests. Hit the tests fast and hard- take as many as your mind can take. That's the way to do it. Take them even if you think you'll fail because you might not.

By the time the smoke settles I'm hoping to come in under a year as well and that year includes 5 months of no studying (I have a personal policy where I will not study during the blackout months and took off an additional two months due to only having one test left).

I didn't miss a single day of studying during that time, not necessarily by choice. I worked 8a-5p at one job, 15 hours per week on top of that at Kohls (late shifts on weekends), took 2 classes online per semester for my masters, and had a 10 and 16 year old. I could MAYBE squeeze in 2 hours per day of studying if I was lucky and so missing a day, week or month was a luxury I couldn't afford.

The exams I failed were when I tried to take 2 in the same window. With my schedule that was completely unrealistic and foolish to try. I ended up passing one exam per window which is what I would suggest if someone has an obnoxious schedule like I did.

    mla-

    That's a nasty schedule.

I did most of this through my busy season (50-55 hrs billed per week) and that sucked, but don't have the second job/kids/grad school.

I agree about the foolishness. Having failed a few at this point I always knew why- I didn't allow enough time to sufficiently address the material. These aren't tests of intelligence. They're tests of fortitude.

    My hat's off to you.

@Kim – I don't really understand it all either. I just know what my deadline is – and that it's coming up quick! Speaking of two tests in the same window – that's the boat I'm in this window. Just took BEC and REG is on tap for the end of November. Not too hopeful about BEC (I tend to not study until the week or so before the exam….), but I have January/beginning of February for a retake if I need it.

@Bill – Rockies are amazing! And the fishing is too – or so I hear. I've never been fly fishing, though I took a class earlier this spring with some friends. I'd love to get out next year. Ice fishing can be fun as well – especially if you have a hut/shelter. I'm more excited for the snow to fly – I just started learning to snowboard a few years ago but haven't been able to make it out much and still have a lot to learn as far as the basics go. Hoping tax season doesn't get in the way of it too much this year. Until then, soaking up the rest of fall/no snow and getting in as many new hikes as I can! Oh. And studying. There's that too…. πŸ˜‰

@ mla – our schedules sound comparable. I wanted to thank you for the advice you gave in another thread. I am taking every opportunity to study and using the suggestions you provided to sneak in even more study time. Thank you!

I think this thread got way off track from what my original question was. I still do not know what the answer is, either. This thread turned into more of a discussion regarding the 18-month window once you a first section is passed. My question concerns the length of time that takes place between testing before any sections are passed. For example, I took BEC on November 28, 2012. It has been nearly 2 years since I last attempted an exam. Does my eligibility expire to be able to take a test at all after so long? I thought this length of time was 2 years (meaning I'd need to attempt or take a test by November 28, 2014), but I have not been able to find anything at all that says that. Again, I'm a Texas candidate, so just wondering if anyone might know anything on this. Thanks in advance!

You should call your state board because anything posted on here may be an interpretation and not a fact. The board should be able to tell you right away. My first thought would be to apply for an NTS and if it works, it works and you can schedule your test.

CPA Exam - Finally DONE (November 2014)
    BEC (08/10/13) 80
    AUD (08/24/13) 65 (11/13/13) 85
    FAR (04/12/14) 81
    REG (07/19/14) 69 (11/29/14) 87!!

Yes, it did get very off-track, but I thought that we had resolved your question in that you were going to call your state board and ask.
