Long story short…took BEC august 2012 passed w a 77…tried passing AUD finally did it after 3 tries in May 2013 passed w an 82 and then had another pass with REG in August with a 77. Took FAR in dec 2013 and failed with a 65

Just walked out of prometric right now and I’m 100% sure I failed because I left 5/7 sims blank because they were so left field.

My problem with FAR is journal entries.

So my Aud credit expires 11/30/2014 so I have to pass FAR & BEC before than but problem is I no longer have my review course for BEC what course should I buy again? And how do I overcome the journal entry hump with FAR.

Sorry this post is all over the place but I thought I had this exam under control but it’s totally doing me in. HOWEVER, I WILL NOT GIVE UP UNTIL I SUCCEED

Sending you HUGS!! Fingers crossed that you are wrong, but if you aren't wrong, sounds like you know where you need to improve… You need to practice journal entries. Maybe you should make a list and explanation of JE's and study it and try to do the JE when you answer questions even if they aren't asking you for the JE.

The best way to get good at journal entries is to do journal entries.

Start with easier ones, restaurant buys $100 worth food:

Dr. Inventory 100

Cr. Cash 100

And then, restaurant sells $10 meal with a cost of $3

Dr. Cash 10

Cr. Revenue 10

Dr. COGS 3

Cr. Inventory 3

…

Come up with different scenarios and do the journals by hand. Do a bond sale at a premium and make the entries for the subsequent payments and premium amortization. Buy a building and book the monthly payments and building depreciation, etc.

Do t-accounts make sense to you? I used t-accounts on three of my FAR sims Even now when I'm writing journal entries at work I see t-accounts in my head. My college professors always stressed them.

Also, there's a textbook by David P Weiner. It's small – really more of a guidebook. I read it cover to cover in a weekend. It has the best explanation of journal entries (uses t-accounts) that I've ever seen. One of my college professors recommended it to me and I carried that thing with my through my entire grad program. It was my go to book for explaining anything I got stuck on. You could probably get a used one for $20 off of amazon. Good luck!!

Also, in the future I would recommend not to leave any fields blank in the SIMs even if you have no clue. At least throw all zeroes in the fields if they require a number value. A minimal chance of randomly keying in the right answer is much better than no chance for points.

Were the journal entries similar to the ones in Becker? Do you use Becker? If not, any advice on which sections you suggest people should spend their time on for SIMs? No need to disclose what was on your exam, just general suggestions 🙂
