So my first exam is on Tuesday and I just wanted to check with people who have been through this experience. What do I need to make sure I bring? NTS, 2 forms of ID, anything else? Also how early should I get to the testing center, 12 o’clock exam start time, and am I allowed to bring a backpack with me as I want to be able to go directly to the library after to study for a midterm I have on Friday?

Hi gottapass, I brought a printout of my confirmation of registration just in case. They recommend that you get to the exam about 30 minutes before your start time. Although for my first exam, I got there an hour early and was able to go right in so they don't mind taking people early. The lockers at the test center I went to were pretty small so I don't know if they would fit your backpack. I had to leave mine in my car.
For my first exam, I think I was more stressed with all the prometric stuff, like the fingerprinting and airport-type wand scanners, more than I was about the actual exam. That's why it's nice to get there early. Good luck on Tuesday!

September 30, 2013 at 8:24 pm #455630AnonymousInactiveProcess is super easy.
All you need is your NTS printout, ID, and secondary ID (signed debit/credit card will work). They'll pat you down, metal detect, make you put everything in a locker, picture ID, biometric ID, sign in — it's a really easy process.
For my first test it took less than 10 minutes to do everything and I was able to sit for my exam 20 min before my registered time.

September 30, 2013 at 9:43 pm #455634UCMCPAMemberDepending on location, you can get in early. They should have lockers for you to put your stuff in, but so far none of them have been big enough to hold a backpack.
My first exam I went into 15 minutes early, my second exam they were behind and I started it 30 minutes late.

I have a serious hang up about being on time and the thought of being late makes me feel hysterical! You don't want to be sweating little things like that on test day.
Think of the check in process like you are getting in an airplane! They will use the metal detector wand, ask you to raise your pant legs, flip out your pockets, etc. Also be prepared for a fingerprint scan and photo. If you can avoid bringing your backpack, do so! My prometric doesn't have lockers big enough to hold a backpack either. It would be horrible to show up and have no place to keep it and a prometeric employee gives you crap about it. Not what you need when you are already nervous! You could give them a call and ask about locker size if its a big deal.
Print yourself an extra copies of your NTS and stick it in your backpack, fold one up and put in your pants, pin it to your shirt…you get the point! 😉 No NTS+ID=NO testing for you!
Good luck!!!!! 🙂

Do you know how to get there? Is parking free? Do you they have meters and if so are they more than 2 hours? You don't want to get beat up by an exam and come out to a surprise on your windshield. Also, plan to get there early as others have said. You may have to wait for others to be processed and that can take some time. Good luck to you!
ETA: I guess if you won't be driving if you are worried about your backpack…but I'll leave it for the next person.

October 1, 2013 at 10:30 am #455640AnonymousInactiveI would second Baxter's advice to do a drive-by. My testing center is about 2 hours away, so I didn't drive up there to find it before the exam…and I was pretty much crying in my car when I couldn't find the stupid place on exam day! The building-numbering was very weird and confusing where my exam center is. I had pretty much given up and went to turn around, and due to traffic, the only place I could find to turn around was somewhat out of hte way…and then lo and behold, there was the Prometric center, in a place I never would've thought to look, based on the address, GPS, etc.
For going to the library after your exam, I would suggest bringing just the materials you need (book, notebook, and pens or whatever) and putting them in a bag or something. The lockers at the testing centers that I've been to were big enough to hold a textbook, but probably not the extra space taken by the backpack.
I like to arrive early. With my 2 hour drive, I never know what may happen between here and there, and I hate to be late or almost-late to anything! So for most of my exams, I've been there around an hour early. My next one is at 6pm, and I'd rather not test that late, so may get there a couple hours early and hope I can get in early. 🙂 And…my last one I broke the early rule – I had an interview that morning that took longer than expected (which is probably a good sign, and I got the job which is good, but it delayed my start), so I arrived more like 20 minutes before exam time instead of the recommended 30 minutes or my preferred hour. 😉 If you're there at least 30 minutes early, you'll be fine…and honestly, you could be closer to scheduled time and still be OK. But, being there extra-early won't hurt anything either. Just bring something with you to either distract you or do some last-minute cramming in case you have to wait. 🙂
