Hello! Has anyone had experience transferring their exam credits from one state to another?

My husband is active duty military and therefore I no longer meet the Kansas residency requirement. I had to wait 60+ and 80+ days during 2 testing windows to find out I missed it by 1 -3 points so now it’s an issue. Apparently Kansas doesn’t have an exception for military even though according to the government Kansas is our state of residence.

I have a BEC credit expiring in February and Kansas would not give me an extension to transfer my scores to Washington state (where we currently live) so I’ve accepted the fact that it’s going to expire and I’m going to have to re-take it.

I applied for Washington and had all my transcripts sent on 12/22/2017. Kansas NEVER took longer than 2 weeks – even with the initial application. I had to continuously follow up with Washington Coordinator as they were very adamant they did not receive my transcripts – even after I provided them with confirmations. After calling the generic 1800 number for NASBA, someone looked in their depository of electronic transcripts where they instructed I send it and they had been sitting in there since 01/09/2018.

I’m now running out of time to test as the testing center is filling up and they are still evaluating my transcripts. Has anybody had these kinds of issues? I feel like I’m being punished because of administrative issues that are beyond my control.

I have a FAR credit expiring and baby on the way in August, so I am now coming up against crunch time having to retake BEC, REG, and AUD before then and not able to test in March or June. Did I mention I work full time? I’m at a complete loss on what to do, and completely frustrated and actively trying not to give up.

The processing time varies from state to state. I believe it can take up to 6 weeks or so. In NY, It took me around 5 weeks since my college sent my transcript. Since Washington state is pretty big, I would imagine that there are lot of candidates before you that need to be reviewed

Yes I'm sure they have a lot, but I went in circles with them for 2.5 weeks about my transcript. So that's 2.5 weeks of waiting that they told me basically doesn't even count.

I guess the 6 weeks starts from the date they receive the transcript. I don't know if one could ever find out what the exact date of delivery is unless you had them sent via UPS or something that has the exact date of delivery. I don't really understand your residency situation. I would imagine that once you got approved to sit for an exam in whatever state, you would just finish all the exams and then worry about transferring credits to another state.. I am pretty sure you can sit for an exam in any state .. not sure about the territories.

Kansas has a residency requirement in which you have to submit a copy of your driver's license and a billing statement with a Kansas address every time you apply for a Notice to Schedule. Not all states have residency requirements. Washington does not. But ALL of our documents with the government (including my driver's license) indicate Kansas as our state of residence – we vote in Kansas, have Kansas vehicle tags, etc. But since I no longer have a physical address in Kansas the Kansas state board doesn't consider me a resident. They also won't allow me to use my parent's address (which is on my driver's license) because I don't have a bill going there. This is also the only time in my husband's 11 years of military experience that we have encountered something not giving a residency exception for the military (example – we can continue to renew our vehicle registration in Kansas even though we don't live there).

I have the exact date my transcripts were sent because they were sent via the National Student Clearinghouse electronically and I got a confirmation email time stamped with when they were sent.

It's just an overall extremely frustrating experience. Applying for college was easier than this. Both the Washington and Kansas coordinators really haven't been pleasant people to deal with. And I have 6 years of full time work experience, so at some point my work experience is going to start counting for more than a certification (at least from what I've been told) so I'm really not sure it's worth it at this point. I don't have any public accounting experience which is why REG and AUD have been struggles for me. I don't intend to work for a public firm, but started this journey because we do have to move for my husband's job every 2-4 years and I felt a MBA/CPA combination would make me more marketable.
