Exam Expiration

I know this question has been asked and the typical answer is to call state board.

I called earlier today, but am still unclear. I have sent an email and will probably call again, but wanted to ask the experts in the meantime.

I took my first exam, BEC, on August 31, 2011. Per NASBA, this expires February 28, 2013. My question to NASBA – Is it okay to take it Feb 28 (assuming I pass) or do I need to take it Feb 27. They recommended that I take it Feb 27 to “be safe”… but I really want to take it Feb 28 for a few reasons. 1. It’s an extra day and 2. It’s my Mom’s birthday so it’d be nice to have part of the day off work. So…what say you? Be safe and go with 2/27 or live on the edge and take it 2/28?

As a mom, I certainly would NOT want my adult child to risk losing a section of this exam for the sake of a few extra hours off work on my actual birthday. Moms never put themselves above their kids' needs.

Take it Feb 27 and then take mom out to a great dinner to celebrate potentially being done with this exam as well as her special day.

Yeah, that'd be a gamble I don't think I'd be willing to make. Get it out of the way a day earlier and take your Mom out to a really nice dinner after work =) Schedule it for a late afternoon test if you want the morning to study, that way you really wouldn't be losing much as far as that “extra day” reason.

You guys are probably right. I guess it just irks me because February is such a short month and technically, I should have a few more days. And as far as my Mom's bday, I know it's silly but it's busy season and we don't get off work until she's in bed, so it was just a thought. But definitely not worth the risk. Just wish the rule was the rule and now “well you can take it on 2/28, but we would prefer you take it on 2/27”.

I agree with what the others said – while time off on your mom's birthday would be great, not losing the exam is too important to schedule it on the 28th just because of her birthday. You're better off being safe and taking it the 27th. You could always do something with her for her bday a day early.

I would STRONGLY RECOMMEND to take exam on Feb 27. Tell your mom its your exam and you are Not sneaking out on a date with some girl…After exam surprise your with a Super Restaurant dinner (expensive one !!) . Because if you do loose the credit, you are paying extra $150+ in fees anyway, and don't forget the TIME.

Yes, take it on the 27th, as the exam is submitted to AICPA in 24-48 hrs, look in NASBA OASIS and you can see that.

If you take it on 28th it will look as if you took it on 3/1 or 3/2.

Thank you all for the advice.

I ended up receiving an email from NASBA saying it was okay to test on or before the expiration date. Just wanted to update everyone in case this comes up in a google search down the line. I am an Indiana candidate.

I would definitely recommend getting something in writing from NASBA just to be safe though.

Hopefully the extra day of studying pays off!!
