Well, that sucked. I had FAR scheduled for today. I had myself all psyched up for it and everything. I got to the testing center, signed in, and then the lady came out and told me that they’re having technical difficulties and that no one can test. Ugh. She said they couldn’t even get the computers up and running in order to figure out what the problem was.

She gave me a card with a phone number and ticket number so that I could call and reschedule, no fee and with priority. So I called and got a spot late in the month, since that was all they had open in the area.

There are 2 bright sides:

It didn’t shut down on me during my test. That would have been way worse than not getting to start.

I have some extra time now to go over a few calculations that I would like to be more comfortable with, especially from a time standpoint.

Here is the weird thing– the appointment he gave me is on Monday, May 26th. That’s Memorial Day. I asked the scheduler– isn’t that Memorial Day? They’re really testing that day? He said they must be if the time was available on the computer.

Have you guys heard of having these tests on major holidays???

Gotta give you props for keeping a positive attitude!! I'm shocked about the Memorial Day testing, hopefully someone else here is scheduled for that date and can reassure you!

Well, to update, I wasn't very comfortable about having to wait over 2 more weeks to test and the iffiness of the holiday test date, so I hopped online to see if anything might have opened up. Lo and behold they had space on 5/21 (at my regular Prometric– 5/26 was at a different location), so I took it. I had to pay $35 to reschedule, but I think it's well worth it.

Now I just have to rethink my overall test scheduling strategy. I have REG scheduled for early July and was going to take a couple of weeks off studying after FAR to see if I passed or not. But I don't have time for that now. I don't want to reschedule REG. I think I'll have to move onto studying for REG the day after FAR and just concentrate on that. I can redo FAR later if I don't pass. But I do have this gift of extra time now to help increase the chances of passing FAR.

I always started studying for the next section right away, of course 3 years ago you had to wait up to 2 months for score release so there was no time to wait. It's good though that you had budgeted that time and this glitch won't need to affect your next exam!

And I'd call prometric and ask for a refund of that $35. Why should their internal problems cost you money? You've got more important things to worry about between now and the 21st but even after that I'd send an email explaining. They owe you that much for being understanding!

That's a great idea to try to get a refund after the 21st. I didn't want to bother with it before then, so I was going to write it off, but I didn't think of just postponing the request a bit. Thanks for the suggestion!!!

I just want to follow up– it took a while to hear back, but Prometric just sent me an email that they decided to refund my $35!

I think part of what sold the situation is that when I asked the rep about Memorial Day, his recommendation was to call the center the Thursday before to double-check that they'd be testing. That is horrible advice for a CPA exam tester, since if you can't test in May you have to wait until July, which throws everything off, including the July test I already had scheduled.
