    Hi all,

Sorry if this is the wrong place for this question.

I’m planning to sit for the CPA exam eventually, but will have to return to school to knock out a few more credits. My question is — I read somewhere that you have to take all your credits at a school in the state where you’re planning to take the CPA exam. Is this true?

    Thanks!

No. That may not necessarily be true. You need to contact the state board in the state you plan to get licensed and ask them. They will probably want a syllabus from the course if it is an accounting/business course, but it is possible. Most of my hours came from another school, in another state, with another major!

Hi, I have never heard of this rule. While I can't speak for every state, if this had applied, I never would have been academically eligible. I completed my degree in PA before moving to NJ (where I sat for the exam and will be licensed). All of my business classes were in PA. I only took 2 elective classes in NJ to satisfy the 150 hour requirement. I agree, however, that you should check with the board of your particular state just in case.

    REG - 86 (11/22/11)
    BEC - 88 (1/9/12)
    FAR - 79 (2/29/12)
    AUD - 71 (5/7/12) - Got a little lazy. Retake 7/30/12 - 85 on the retake woohoo!

The states set their own rules and Kricket is correct that you need to contact your state board.

I am licensed in MA but went to school in NH.

    FAR- 77
    AUD -49, 71, 84
    REG -56,75!
    BEC -75

Massachusetts CPA (non reporting) since 3/12.

    Nice. Thanks for your responses!

I'm actually trying to do the same as Scritt; I have all my credits at a PA undergrad and I'm trying to sit for the NJ exam. I'm a few credits short (which I assume I can take at a NJ Community College?).

Scritt, was there anything specific that you had to do to sit for the NJ exam with PA credits?

    Thanks!
