Am I screwed? Expired or not?

So I took FAR on 07/31/2013 which is the same day my BEC score was set to expire. FAR would’ve been my last test (if I pass) and I was under the impression that if I passed FAR that I would be able to keep my BEC score. I just looked at the California Board of Accountancy site and my BEC score shows an Expired credit status already. Will that reverse if I pass FAR (score won’t be released for another couple weeks)? Is it quasi-expired until I learn otherwise or am I just absolutely screwed?

Pretty sure you're screwed. Your score EXPIRED at 12:00 AM, as soon as it “became” 7/31/2013. That's why it's called the “expiration date,” not the “you have one day left because this is the date before the date your exam expires” date.

I know the ship has sailed, but why would you have run the risk and not just taken it a day or two earlier.

You should be fine. The score updates to expired as soon as it passes that date (so Aug 1 if their site is up-to-date), but as long as you took it within the 18 months, then it still counts, regardless of when you receive the score.

However, I don't know whether it expires on 7-30 or 7-31. But if they'd shown 7-31 as the expiration date previously, then if you passed FAR, you should be in good shape!

you should be fine, I've read about others in CA who had the website change to expired for the time between sitting for their exam and receiving their score, then it goes back when scores are released. Search the forum using the google search bar above.

The website you're looking at doesn't “know” you took an exam until the scores are released, so it assumes you're expired until that day.

call your state board. although I'm amazing that you scheduled it without knowing for sure. usually when things expire, you get the expiration date as a valid date.. so you might be okay. example.. yogurt expiring on 7/31, that's still good yogurt that day.

I am seriously hyperventilating and getting slightly dizzy at work right now. I'm wondering what I would tell my husband if I passed FAR but missed it because of a friggin' dumbass mistake.

@GO Hawks probably has the best advice. Call the board. These things are all done by state and there are glitches and inconsistencies in the system and from what I understand California has one of the more “unique” set of rules.

Okay, I just called the CBA and they confirmed that the client system is not set up to have a “limbo” status. I'm good! Of course, that's assuming I pass FAR!!!

    Thank you guys! Whew!

I've honestly never called the CBA about anything before, had thought it would be a painful process of long holds and transfers. Surprisingly, a human answered my call within a couple rings and knew the answer for me right away and was very helpful about it.

Congrats, yeah I've had a question or two for the CBA and they always emailed back very quickly. Now if only they'd cash my check and send me my license!

    From NASBA:

“My conditional credit expires soon. What is the last day I can sit without losing credit?

You have until the end of testing on the day your credit expires. Remember, when scheduling your examination, some testing centers are not open on weekends or holidays. For some jurisdictions, the expiration date for conditional credit may fall in a non-testing month.

Examination content changes do not affect conditional credit. If you passed a section prior to January 1, 2011, and have valid credit, you will not have to retake that section unless the credit expires before you pass all four sections”
