I’ve read that once I’ve passed all four exams, that they do not expire. Is there any reason to not delay getting licensed? I’d rather not pay for maintaining a license that I am not currently using…I have left the workforce for awhile. (I am still waiting on my final score, but wasn’t sure where else to categorize this post on the forum…hope I don’t jinx myself!)

I think my state it does expire if you don't get licensed within 5 years.

I believe there is an option to maintain an inactive CPA license.

I can't speak to your personal circumstances, but it may be something to look into.

there are a couple of states where you only have a certain amount of time after passing all 4 to get a license or you do lose credit. Can't remember off the top of my head which states, I know MA isn't one of them.

Colorado you have 4 years. And if you don't go through any formal licensing process it's illegal (literally) to advertise yourself as a CPA …even if you only sign it after your name. Even to do that you need to go through steps with the state board for an inactive designation.

I would get licensed then let it expire. I have a co-worker that was licensed, exited the workforce for a while and then decided to come back. Since they were previously licensed the state did not require them to re-take the tests to get re-licensed, but if you never get licensed you may not get the same treatment.
