    Hi all,

I applied on the federal gov website for a position with the FBI 3 weeks ago. Has anyone here ever gone through the hiring process with the federal government? It seems like I should have received some sort of notice by now…

Be patient – four years ago, I put an application in late October, had an interview in early December, didn't hear anything…mid-January got a call saying I was hired and they needed to background check and paperwork. Started in April. Its a VERY slow process. My son-in-law also works for the federal government and had an almost equally long time to get through the hiring process.

When you applied, do you remember what the closing date was? When a job is listed, it has to be listed for a minimum number of days. Another bad thing with the govt is that they may list a job, but it may go to someone internal or to a vet (who would both have priority over a new hire).

    REG - Nov 4, 2013: 88
    FAR - Feb 27, 2014: 86
    AUD - April 5, 2014: 91
    BEC - May 6, 2014: 83

    Florida CPA 24 July 2014
(Done in seven months - thank you Jesus!!)

Wow that is slow. I suppose i should expect this from government haha. I applied on the closing date for the position, but it sounds like it could be a few more weeks. Hopefully i will get a notice either way.

Yes, I applied through that website, got a call from an “agency” a year later.

I had no idea how they got my resume (I completely forgot I put my resume up there) and they hinted that is where they got it…

    AUD- 97 1x
    REG- 81 1x
    BEC- 79 1x
    FAR- 88 1x

    DONE!

    10/1/12 to 2/28/14

I just started with the federal government on Monday. I had basically the same experience as Quin. Applied in October, interviewed in November, got a tentative offer in January, did my background check and security clearance in February and March, and finally got my start date for April. Everything in the government is slow, unfortunately. You should see the status of your application on the usajobs website. If you are deemed best qualified for the job, the status will say ‘referred' which means your resume went to the hiring manager and they will choose who they want to interview. Just have patience and good luck :)!

    FAR: 65, 77!
    AUD: 72, 72, 80!
    REG: 64, 84!
    BEC: 83!
    Ethics: 98!

This might seem like a silly question to ask.

Is it more or less difficult to get a job with the government than finding work in private industry?

Quick question what will be the effect of continuing to apply to new jobs on the same govt website when you've not gotten any feed back on the earlier applications .Won't that relay to the recruiters that you are not focused and that you do not know what you are looking for? please advise as my mentor told me never to apply to the same organization more than once if you have not gotten any feedback on the earlier application . Let talk to this…. those with experience please share it whether my mentor suggestion is right.
