Believe me this word is NOT in my vocabulary, but I am a true loss. How do I have a 4.0 in my MSA, but I received the following scores:

    BEC 69, 64

    REG 38 – yes a 38

    FAR 50

    AUD – taking 02/25/12

I used MDS as my review course and completed all the homework as instructed. After just receiving my BEC score for the second time this morning, I am feeling severly hopeless. I have worked in the accounting field for 15 years – yes I am 36 years old. Am I too old to learn this??? Any insight or direction would be greatly appreciated.

Hello, Friends: I am happy to find you. I am still too dismayed by the score that I received yesterday to write a lengthy post, when I learned I have lost credit for three exams after receiving a 63 on my second attempt. (My first attempt scored 72.)

I will revisit this thread tomorrow.

DON'T GIVE UP!!!!! I've been at this for 10 years now and I haven't given up and not planning to!! I also had 3 credits lost and started all over again!!!

Started sitting in May 2002, on and off. But since 2008 I've been nonstop and my scores are....
    AUD - 39, 48, 56, 65, 68, 73, 76!!! (Finally passed in Oct 2011!!!) Becker, NINJA, & Wiley
    REG - 75 (Lost Credit) 72, 68, 73, 75 (Passed again in Aug 2011) Becker, NINJA, & Wiley
    FAR - 65, 68, 75 (Lost Credit) 68, 73, 73, 80 (Passed again in May 2012) Roger, NINJA, & Wiley
    BEC - 65, 68, 71, 72, 72, 71, 76 (Lost Credit)- 70, 76!!!! I AM DONE!!! - Roger, NINJA, & Wiley
After 10 long years of studying, I AM DONE!!!! Finally a Licensed CPA in the State of New York!!

I completely know how you feel. I am 50 and trying to pass the CPA exam. When I was younger I didn't have the opportunity to go to college and found myself a single parent with no education. It took me 10 years but I finally got a Masters Degree in Accounting with a 3.9 GPA. A matter of fact, my graduation is in a couple of months. 🙂 My test scores are as follows:

    FAR – 47

    AUD – 42

I have never felt so stupid and like such a failure. At 50, however, I ask myself if I want to spend all of my spare time studying…the answer is YES!!!!!!!!! I don't care how long it takes me. As long as I am able, I am going to keep trying to pass the exam. Failure and giving up is not an option. Hang in there and believe me…you are not too old!

Looking at the others posting on this forum gives me hope that one day I will be able to concur this beast!

    SW123,

Thank you for all the helpful information. As I mentioned, I have only taken FAR and AUD. I took them both in the same test window. I felt I had ample time to study for FAR but although I understand AUD, I didn't feel quite ready. For FAR, I only used the Wiley book/test bank. If you have ever seen the Wiley book, it is overwhelming. I have since regrouped and bought the Ninja notes (which I felt were a good read), the Becker book and I keep practicing on the Wiley test bank. Hopefully this new approach will help.

As far as AUD, I feel like I didn't have enough time to study, plain and simple. I have signed up for both of them again in the next test window and am confident I will be more successful. You are right when you say that the exam focuses on specifics. I also found that to be true.

Congrats on your success. I am hoping to me there too someday soon!

Tess – You're welcome! I'm glad that my tips would be helpful to you! I hope that you'll pass the CPA exam with your new materials and plan. I also agree with dprofis and katiekanton that it's also important to understand what you would like during this stage of your life. It appears to me that you are determined to pass the CPA exam, which is great! I also agree with porschify that it's best to focus on studying for the exam and learn how to select the best answer given the information provided by the question. As for AUD, topics such as SOX 2002 and internal control will always be on the exam because those are very important for auditors to know so it's important to learn and understand those information. Just my 2c! Best of luck to you!

@Me – I am 52 and just starting with FAR in April but feel very determined to keep going no matter how many exams it takes. I started with little confidence but now feel hopeful that I can know the material well. And I hope that each day studying pushes off dementia a little longer!
