I’m getting ready to take BEC tomorrow and was wondering if anyone that has recently taken BEC has any tips regarding the writing section (or any section for that matter). I’m starting to freak out.

    Thanks!

First breath and relax for 10 seconds. Then review all the sims I mean read all three before responding. So you can allocate your time accordingly based on your knowledge. Leave about 1:30 minutes for your sims if your a slow typist like me. After you decide how you gonna tackle them write down what they are asking on the plastic scratch thingy then write a quick bullet point response on your scratch paper using the memo format beginning, middle and end. Allow yourself 5 minutes per question to do this. Then you can start typing like mad. This will save you time and help you get your point across.

This helped me because I can write a novel if I have allot of time (travel to china and africa) then eventually get to the point by then I have lost time for the other questions.

Good luck, you know more than you think. Just don't doubt yourself unless you are 100% sure. Do yourself a favor and read the other BEC forums for tips on how best utilize your time on test day. 😉

I have taken BEC twice now and both times finished all 3 WC in under 30 minutes… I think they are the easiest part of the test by far. If you are a decent writer and a good or normal speed typer, you should be fine with leaving 45 minutes in my opinion. If I have to take it again, I will leave 45 minutes- this past time I left 1 hour and I finished the exam in 2 1/2 hours- I could have spent the extra 30 minutes on the MCQ's instead.

The WC are really easy in my opinion and you shouldn't need to study for them or worry about them at all. Being that it is your first time, I would give yourself 2 hours for the the 3 testlets and 1 hour for the WC's.

    just my advice– 🙂

I type pretty quickly and with a couple of minutes for reading the question and planning my response, it took me approximately 10 minutes per written communication. It's a good idea to be able to gauge your typing speed but even if you're one of those one finger wonders, you probably shouldn't spend more than 20 minutes per written communication (and that seems excessive).

Sorry, but that is the worst advice I've ever seen posted on this forum. Spend half your exam time on a section that is only 15% of your grade? Not to mention that you still can get most of the points for the WC just by typing complete sentences with keywords relevant to the question.

Candidates, do not listen this guy. I think he wants the curve to go down so he can pass with a low score.
