Study till my head is numb, support?

    This question is mostly for you veterans that have passed at least one section of the exam. Often when I study for hours on end, listen to the lectures, take intensive notes and then I get to the MCQ’s and I am like what the hell, and draw a blank. I learn a lot more once I go thru the MCQ’s and understand what’s going on, but I think I am at like 50-60% passing on the MCQ’s my first time through them. Is it pretty normal to study your @$$ off and then wonder if you are retaining anything? I’ve only been at this for a few weeks and i’ve been pretty dedicated.

    The whole point of the mcqs is to learn so don't feel like you have to get them all right the first time. And yes it's normal to feel like you are forgetting everything but you retain more than you think. Working through the mcqs is key to learning what you don't know.

    with these exams, you'll never really feel like you know anything at all. You'll go into your testing center with so much information swirling in your head that you'll feel like you're forgetting everything. However, once you sit down and relax a little bit, all the information will come back to you after you do a few questions.

    I, too, forget a lot of what I learn after going through the entire material and mcqs. However, when I go over the chapters a second time I understand the material quicker. Sometimes I lack the motivation to study but have found that the more I push myself to, it seems to become a part of my life. I find myself studying while at the gym walking on the treadmill, studying while stuck in traffic, studying while waiting at the doctor's office, etc…I get bored when I'm just waiting around, so I study.

    Maverick is how I approach it too. I highly recommend utilizing as many senses and environments as possible to study. Keep flashcards everywhere, record notes, listen to lectures, and don't read to read or memorize to memorize.

    Do you talk to your computer screen or yourself to understand the MCQ's? Putting things in a conversational context, even though it may not be real, is the most real you're going to get (and therefore grasp) with the material.

    But then again, I have yet to pass a single exam so take my advice with a pinch of salt.

    @CPAWannabe: I feel your pain. If I get one more 70 on the Wiley MCQ I'm going to put my fist through the wall. I have put in 30+ hours on Becker B1 alone and I STILL feel like I don't get it adequately enough. I do great on the Becker MCQs, but they are all too familiar to me now and I am quite discouraged.

    How did you feel about B1? Have you gone to any other websites or MCQ test banks to see what else is out there? Anyway, good luck to you! I'm sure it'll all come together soon.

    @keelydare1

    I put in about 25 hours in B1 and B2 is not much different, besides the corporate governace section in B1, the material is computation heavy. I've learned alot, mostly from the MCQ's.
