    Hello everyone,

I am really struggling with BEC. A part of it may be due to me being burnt out, but this material is just so difficult! Normally I have been able to get through two becker chapters a week, however it has taken me 2 weeks to get through chapters 1 and 2 of BEC. The multiple choice questions for Chapter 1 and 2 have been so time consuming and its making me extremely frustrated. To make matters worse I still don’t feel confident with the material for either of these chapters but I must move on. Please tell me that the material gets easier, because at this rate I feel like I won’t be able to cover everything before my November 13th exam. I would love any feedback or tips from people who were in a similar situation as me and had success with this exam. I am really in need of some motivation from my A71 family!

Peace and Love, Peace and Love…

    FAR - 90
    AUD - 82
    REG - 93
    BEC - 80

I'm studying for BEC, my first section 11/15. B1 & B2 take forever, but the succeeding chapters are not as horrible as the first two. They put too much questions on those. I should have spent more time doing the MCQs ‘coz they helped me more than the book and lectures, they only provided minimal help. The questions are difficult and could get tricky but they made me painfully learn. Try to combine formulas, especially for the Variance section, Becker's answers are not presented very well for those problems. But when I spent time to my polish formulas, I could instantly answer those questions, investing time on making a formula sheet paid off.

Not a 100% if this works but the material is sticking even if I'm closing in to my final review. Any tips for the other sections? Great scores, you'll do just as fine. I never expected BEC to be a pain on the ***, might have been better off if I took FAR or REG first. Good luck.

The cost accounting topics (2nd half of BEC-1 & BEC-2) are the hardest parts of the Becker BEC topics. The homework in those sections is brutal. I found the homework questions to be much more difficult and twisted than what I actually saw on the exam. If you can get through the homework questions though you should have a solid understanding of the topics and should be in good shape for the exam. BEC-3 (Finance) can also be tricky, but not to the extent of the cost accounting stuff). Don't get discouraged and keep pushing through it.

The IT stuff is easy and it will go fast… now the Strategic Planning stuff could be a B. I actually enjoyed studying for BEC. To me, it was very logical. Cost acctg is nothing but a huge puzzle. Focus a lot on COSO and IT. Don't freak out too much about the variances and other formulas. Make sure you can write in an organized, logical manner and you should be golden!

BEC is difficult but it can be passed. You may feel burnt out but most of us felt that way when studying for the CPA exam.

For me BEC 3 and 5 were the most challenging parts using Becker. If you feel you are not making progress in terms of learning the material and getting your goals of 2 chapters per week then please do not feel bad.

Focus more on the areas that you are having problem with.

Make your own flash cards(these helped me to learn concepts and formulas, it was time consuming but very worthwhile)

Set goals (examples 30 pages per night including HW) and stick to it.

You already passed FAR and AUD so used some what you can remember from theses two to help wth BEC. (example IT in Auditng and IT in BEC are similar in parts).

Some Chapters have parts that are very easy and other parts are difficult to grasp the concepts (different chapters vary in difficulty to different person). Use alternate website to learn the material (example go the the PCAOB website and you can use 10-15 minutes to clearly understand COSO and related topics). Pretend that you are explaining the material to someone (Our brains can remember songs and poems easily, therefore; apply the same concepts to BEC and your burden will be easier

Once you know the formulas and concept the SIM will be easier

    You CAN do it

Thanks for the advice and tips. I moved onto Chapter 3 and I am familiar with this material since I received my undergrad degree in finance. I'm thinking that beckers approach to cost has confused me some and I plan on just utilizing T accounts since that is what helped me when I took my cost accounting course in college. I am having a tough time getting the COSO stuff to stick and I find it a little odd that COSO is covered in both AUD and BEC….Thanks again for the replies.

I have had different strategies for all of my exams. For FAR I spent most of my time going through the Becker textbook. I didn't spend much time reworking the multiple choice questions. For AUD I went through the material once and spent the rest of the time doing as many multiple choice questions as possible. For REG I spent a good amount of my time focusing on BLAW since I have several years of tax experience. The approach for REG might not have been the best, but I will find out in a couple of weeks if I passed.

    FAR - 90
    AUD - 82
    REG - 93
    BEC - 80
