So, I am officially struggling with BEC. I am scheduled to sit (yet again) on November 28th. I’ve taken it twice using ExamMatrix and Yaeger. I am currently trying Becker, but I am worried because I am reading that Becker isn’t strong in the BEC arena. Any suggestions?

    AUD - 98, 92, 88 - ExamMatrix
    FAR - 80, 81 - ExamMatrix
    REG - 76 - ExamMatrix
    BEC - 71, 71, 80 - ExamMatrix

Becker was fine for BEC. I think some people complain because there is some ancillary material in Becker that seems to show up on the Exams. If you do all the lectures and questions and read through the ancillary material, you should be fine. You may also want to supplement Becker the Wiley testbank. It is cheap and will give you additional questions to work through.

what I don't understand about the ancillary material is that they say read over once. Okay once you do that then what?? I think I learn best by doing the multiple choice questions so I if I am not being tested on ancillary stuff how can it stick??

    FAR 76
    REG 76(2x)
    BEC FAILED (2x)
    AUD FAILED (2x)

Blaming it on a review program is just an excuse. Put in the quality time and you'll be okay.

who is blaming it on the review course? I put in more than enough time (just ask the hubby). I am simply asking how do you make it stick? for me I have to do the MCQ what is the technique used when incorporating ancillary if MCQ are not focused around it.

I was struggling with some of the finance/ MBA type questions. I went on youtube and found MBAbullshit.com's link. His videos helped me out, b/c Cindy in Yaeger leaves out tons of material in her lectures…Also, I heard another channel on youtube was Kahn's Academy, I haven't watched his videos yet.

Yea.. I just got done with Chp 3. It was very difficult for me. Chp 1 was also difficult. But I think 1 will get easier the more that I do the MQ. And from what I have heard chp 5 is really difficult. My Fiance has hated BEC the most of the four so far because of the mood it puts me in.

    BEC - 81 11/30/11 Praise God
    FAR - 84 7/11/11
    AUD -70,64,72, IM DONE!! 90 7/5/12
    REG - 84 10/07/11

@gotta – I always thought you were a guy. Anyway, Becker actually has multiple choice questions on the ancillary material. They say “read it through once, do the multiple choice questions, what sticks, sticks.” This isnt enough for some people, which is why I suggested supplementing with Wiley testbank.

I agree with Mini, I supplemented with Wiley. I needed more! Then in my final review week I added the Gleim Free trial. I did that because at that time, people were saying that Becker didn't have alot on corporate governance. Gleim had great study notes on it. And their test bank was good also. And it was FREE. 🙂

LMAO @Minimorty u crack me up every time! no I am not a guy HA. I have wiley and score pretty high on random set of 24. ya just never know with these test. I just thought that possible folks were doing something extra with the ancillary items. thanks for the info.

Becker is fine. You should do lots of questions and review your own notes towards the end. Wiley or CPAreview for free are all good source. Keep in mind that you will see questions that you have never seen before. But it is BEC…

@yankeeaccountant (or anyone else who knows) how and where did you go to get the Gleim free questions and study guide for BEC? I am taking BEC in a month and am already struggling with the material. I searched yesterday for it, but could not find anymore on the Gleim website, other than their free diagnostic quiz. I am not biased towards Gleim. I'm willing to use anything, so if anyone has any additional suggestions for study tools, I'd really appreciate it. I am using Becker, by the way.

I used Becker as well. Although I did fail BEC with a 74 last window. I sat again two days ago and felt well prepared. I would focus heavily on Chp. 3 and 5 and use the nmeumonic's. The pure dad one is a must…I did most of the homework questions but not all of them. If you understand the formulas you should be fine. I marked the formula's I had difficulty with and reworked them until I knew them. I supplemented Becker with Jeff's ninja notes which was a plus for me on exam day. I've got one to go- FAR and I must pass by Jan.31 or I lose credit for REG. Good luck to all!

I was told by my Becker instructor that Becker is going to/planning to restructure their BEC textbook. They are going to get rid of the ancillary material and incorporate into an additional chapter. To me, it just don't make sense to make something “ancillary” if it's going to test. If it might be test, it should be never be ancillary. If it's ancillary, it should be in the textbook at the first place…just my two cents…

Yes. I agree. Read everything in the book. I feel the ancillary material is more important since I had so many weird questions from the ancillary material. BEC requires both the concept and calculation questions. I would not spend less time on concept questions.

I am using Yaeger along with Jeff's NINJA notes. This is the 3rd time I'm taking BEC (although I can't say I've put forth my best effort yet). For those who've used Yaeger, what are your complaints? I am just planning to go crazy on MCQ using Wiley and CPAreviewforfree.com and then rewatch lectures for any weak areas. I don't feel like watching all the lectures again.
