I just finished taking my last section of the Exam and was wondering if each state recognizes top scores or if the national top 10 is it. I feel like I’ve someone say that states do that but I’m not sure and couldn’t find anything about it on the State Board website.

    I think it's only national, that's what I've heard.

Great thing that you're shooting for top scores! Have you gotten any 100s in any of your parts?

    Good luck!

I think some states recognize the candidates who achieve the highest cumulative score their first tries in a calendar year, but that's about it on the state level. It's possible they also recognize outstanding candidates, which would probably be similar to a top 10 ranking. I know my state does but I don't know about others.

Not that I'm in the running, but I am wondering about candidates who don't take the 4 exams within one calendar year but rather the end of one and the beginning of the next. Are these scores considered as well?

I think the state has a top ten for Texas; they let you sit on stage at the swearing in…….ooooo yay……not

oh yay…I happen to be testing in Texas. I seriously doubt I would be in the running. I got: FAR-86, AUD-96, REG-98, and took BEC about a week ago. What do you think the top score averages are? I'm just curious.

I don't know Sampled, you might be. I have no idea what averages are for state level. I'm curious too….

Top scores most likely depend on the state. I would assume the NY's, TX's, and CA's have a higher amount of candidates so the top scores for those states are probably higher. Average exam score is probably around 95-96+, cumulative being around 380-385. I have no data to back this up; merely an educated guess based on some of the scores I've seen other candidates posting.

Here are the highest scores I've heard of:

    Someone in NY – 390

    Someone else, don't know where – 388

    Someone else, don't know where – 389

Someone else, don't know where – 297, still waiting on BEC

Someone else in CO – 295, still waiting on BEC

I don't know about the states doing their own awards for top scorers. Never heard of that before – but hope this info helps a little.

Not that I'm trying to build myself up, but I think there might be some compensation from my employer if I can get some award, so this thread has started to interest me. I had:

    BEC – 87

    FAR – 98

    AUD – 99

    REG – 97

    Cumulative: 381

I thought I had read somewhere else that you probably needed a 390 to get the Watts Sell Award, so I think I'm probably out of the running for that. I had hoped maybe there was a state award, but I didn't see anything on my state board's website. I guess I'll just have to wait. For those people in TX and CA, is it the state board or the state society that gives your state awards?

Yeah, I don't think my scores are good enough to get anything, maybe if I got a 99 on BEC, doubt it though. The test seemed really easy but it seems like a lot of people get thier worst score on BEC so I guess I'll just have to wait and see.

ok, to summarize – states that do do this:

1.Michigan seems to do this (or at least used to do it as of 2002), based on this press release:

    https://www.encyclopedia.com/doc/1G1-91314790.html

2.user: CapitalGains, you mentioned that your state does it — would you mind disclosing which state that would be?

3.several people in thread mentioned that they think Texas does this — this press release seems to be confirmation that they're still doing it at the moment: https://www2.baylor.edu/baylorproud/2010/01/law-student-among-states-top-10-scorers-on-cpa-exam/

Any other states? Anyone know if Illinois does this?
