    Hi Everyone!

I am so discouraged and depressed right now. I took all for parts of the exam in 2008 and failed all 4 parts miserably. I retried and studied so hard for 3 months and I still failed with a 55 in FAR (May 19th). I have scheduled BEC for the July 19th.

I am not grasping the material well at all and I am woriied.

I need some encouragement and advice cause I really don’t know what to do next.

I took Becker’s live classes. I bought the Wiley BEC book as a supplement. Anyone has any studying strategy that worked for them and would like to share? Please, do…

I am a problem retaining information.

Please, any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks in Advance! 🙁

I'm sorry to hear about your score:( Most of us have been there and know what it feels like to have multiple failing scores. Best advice is to take few days off and get back to it. These exams aren't impossible, but require lot of hard work, dedication and persistence.

As far as retaining information goes, I would encourage you to read the book multiple times and keep working those MCQs until you know why the answer is right or wrong. Read all the explanations to the question in the passmaster and continue to repeat the process until you are scoring in 90% range.

Just keep at it and you WILL pass these exams.

@karma87 I am right there with you. I failed my first 4 exams and am now getting back to studying. I thought I did enough for my audit exam in May, but I also failed. For me I know I didnt do enough MCQ's, so that is my only advice for you. I am doing way more MCQ's for FAR in August.

    Keep at it!! Good luck!!

Maybe you need to find out how you learn. We all do it differently. Some people, like me, need to hear the information. It's sort of like learning the words to a song. If I hear a new song a couple of times, I know the words. Some people need to read the information and others need to put pencil to paper and figure things out for themselves. Here is a link to a learning style inventory test. It doesn't take long and it really helps. The most important thing to remember is that the only way to fail is to quit. Good Luck to you!

    I know that feel, bro.

I've failed each section at least once before I passed my last two sections. I was off by one or two points, but I changed my study habits significantly. I'm currently using Roger CPA Review and I decided to skip the video lectures the times I passed. Instead of watching I dedicated my time to really READING the chapters, TAKING notes, and hammering out mcq's and tbs's.

I realized that I had to keep my study habits the same as I did in college. I was no good during professor lectures, but when I went to the library and dedicated time to reading the chapters I understood the material. Same goes for my reviewing for this exam.

Don't assume that when you're re-taking them that the process will be an easier. A lot of time passes between each section, and the information will leave you quickly. Approach each exam like you've never taken them before. But at the same time, try to think back to what works for you and what doesn't work. Also, if you weren't passing, you probably want to significantly up the hours. I probably put in twice the amont of hours recommended by my review program and got in the 80's on all of them (except for the one I got a 74 in…grr…).

@Cashmoney10 I study exactly like you do. Skip the lectures, read the book, do MCQ's and take my own notes. And I was also horrible at listening to my professors in college, I always got As because I'd read the books and basically teach myself 😛
