I got my 2013 FAR and AUD Becker books but I did not get any CDs with it. It says that I have to login online and then download the desktop application etc. Does this mean there are no CDs for 2013? Confused….

Sounds like you are talking about Becker and if so then yes there are no CDs. You have to longon to the online link they sent you in email or in your materials and download the material to your desktop or laptop. You can also contact Becker to receive technical help.

Yep, no CD's for 2013. You have two choices: (1) do everything online by signing in each time or (2) download each individual chapter separately.

It's pretty irritating since Becker never said a word about this when I coughed up $3,200 last year (my first two sections were done with 2012 CDs and I expected the same for the two 2013 sections).

The online “experience” also kinda sucks. First, the sign-in window doesn't even function for me in Explorer; I have to switch to Firefox everytime I go to the 2013 materials. Second, several of the on-screen buttons don't function at all for me with the 2013 stuff. I can't, for example, pause a lecture once it's running, which makes it virtually impossible for me to take any notes. Repeated calls to Becker's inappropriately labelled “technical support” are worthless. I'm about 70% computer illiterate but I'm better at diagnosing my problems than they are.

I gave up on the online work and downloaded the chapters instead. This, too, is sort of annoying, since each chapter has to be downloaded individually and the process took about an hour on my DSL connection.

I've also noticed the 2013 textbooks are very poorly bound. I'm half way through the first chapter of REG and pages are already falling out.

Hope you have better luck than I did. (God help you if you've got a Mac!)

Oh I have a Mac alright. This is totally bogus!! I am often studying on the train and don't have a connection to the internet. I called and they said, well you can stream the lectures, but that doesn't help me when I'm not connected to the internet! I also can't download on a Mac. Right now I'm on the phone insisting that they said me the 2012 DVDs in addition to the 2013 materials available online. This is so annoying!!!!!!

Nevermind. I figured it out. You have to download the materials chapter by chapter from within the installed software on the computer.

I just purchased and started using the 2013 Becker CPA study. I actually like the Becker online access to the study guide, lectures, and MCQ's. I can just open it up when I'm at work. I'm also able to listen to the lectures on my iPhone when I commute to and from work which is awesome. I hook my iphone up to my car stereo. I haven't experienced any problems with it at all so far. Only thing I don't like is that after a while of being online, you have to log back in again.

I was at first a little excited that I could sign in online and have it update between work and home. But now after hearing about the complications, I'm absolutely dreading this. Not being able to pause the lecture?? I pause the lecture every 2 minutes it seems to finish taking notes. That's ridiculous. I have a Mac as well, so I'm going to have to wait until they roll out this new software in January.

neika822: You might be able to pause the lectures. We are certainly supposed to be able to do that: the on-screen button is right there where you'd expect it. For whatever reason, that button just doesn't work when I try to use it. The annoyance is that Becker can't figure out the problem and basically says “sorry, shit sorta happens.”

I wonder if it's a technical issue with your computer or what not. I've been able to pause lectures (to take notes), rewind, or fast forward with ease. Same thing goes with on my iPhone. Online access has so far worked good for me. Hopefully I don't run into any issues.

I would suggest making sure you have the most recent, updated browser on your computer. Make sure you have the most recent version of Flash (adobe) as well.

My online grip with Becker is the price. They do not need to be charging this much for this most especially if they're are shifting to an all online format.

Ok I am over my meltdown. They are sending me the 2012 DVDs to use in the meantime. I also think it will be kinda handy to have it available online and on my iPhone but I hate that they didn't tell me before I ordered it that it would be a problem for Mac users. I specifically asked about that.

How is it a problem for mac users? can you please elaborate? and how is the questions and the simulations? are they online too? do you have a problem with them as well?

Cartman, the issue is that Becker changed their whole format of self-study courses. It used to be on individual CD's that you'd watch on your computer. Now, you have to sign in online and stream the lectures online. There's the ability to download the lectures to your computer so that you can watch them offline. However, this is only available for PC's so far and NOT Macs. Apparently, Mac's will be able to download the lectures mid-January.

I guess there's also some technical difficulties with streaming online for some. I have not received my materials yet, so I can't comment on my own experience.
