Hey

So I just figured out, probe questions are not actually on the exam? Huh. I tend to do a little better on MCQ than just straight open response so I am worried about having to totally get and answer the full comprehensive answer the test bank has for every WC. Advice?

what study material are you using?

if Becker, they have several examples of the types of things you are asked to write about. They also have a “demonstrated answer for full credit” so you can see what is expected. WC is 15% of the test. In my opinion, if you can write in complete sentences, answer reasonably well, and structure your response within the question parameters, you don't need to worry about it. For example, it asks you to write a memo, Don't respond with a bullet point list only. etc.

I think I am more worried about providing enough material and explanation in my WC answer. I am generally a good writer otherwise.

I didn't know the subjects I was asked to write about. I put a lot of “fluff” info in my paragraphs. I really think it's more about how you wrote than what you write about because I passed. If you are using Becker I would read their examples in the sims. That helped me a lot.

Is it fair to think of the WC section like an essay section of an exam?

That's a good way to look at it but remember the essay section is only worth 15% and may be graded by a computer. If your writing doesn't completely suck, don't stress.

Write an opening paragraph restating the question and the choices or viewpoints. Write two or three paragraphs, one per viewpoint. Write a closing paragraph that wraps up and states a conclusion.

If you follow that format, and don't make extreme factual errors, I bet your WC score should be at least comparable.

True, thanks. I was worried about WC because I was doing great on MCQ, then tried practicing sims and realized that the WC requires much more knowledge than the MCQ does, caught me off guard for sure.

We're not allowed to reveal exam specifics but based on my score I get the impression content is less important than grammar and structure.

Oh yeah I know there is confidentiality, I just know that I got too cozy answering MCQ and was not used to the expectations WC has.
