Thank god…I got my first passing score today. What a relief. 85 on BEC! I didn’t want to study that garbage over again. I really needed a shot in the arm for FAR in 4 weeks and this should suffice. I’m still waiting on AUD, though I feel I did relatively well!!!

I just about crapped my pants when I saw the score. My heart hasn’t beat that hard in a while!! Thank you Becker 🙂

I took Becker and was shocked how similar the Becker MCQs were to the actual exam. Memorize the unqualified report and the other two types of reports (review, compilation) and you should be fine. I would much rather restudy for AUD than BEC. Hopefully, I won't need to study for either.

I had to take BEC in Sept because of the hurricane. I'm sure I'll have to wait until a later date for my score, but hopefully it won't be too much longer!

Passed with an 85 as well! I used the Gleim book and Gleim MCQ.

For those that passed. What areas should I focus on?

    I was thinking this..

    1. Corporate Gov, IC, ERM

    2. IT – definitely this one for sure.

    3. Econ

    4. Financial Management

There is another chapter on Becker but I don't plan to study it much.. I don't even know what its about tbh lol. I figured I'll put as much energy into these solid 4 and hope for the best. Any thoughts?

    BEC: 66 | 69 | 7/23/2013
    AUD: 8/28/2013
    REG:
    FAR:

@ Roach. If you have the time, why not just study that last chapter? Just think, if you get a 74, won't you regret it? And I just checked that last chapter is Strategic Planning. The one about budgets and variances. I wouldn't recommend just skimming that.

Yeah, why would you blow off an entire module? Big mistake. Strategic planning is not only crucial to the CPA, it's crucial to a good business knowledge anyway. Variance analysis, capital budgeting and cost accounting is important, and it is heavily tested on the exam from what I can remember. And the mathematics on each of those problems will probably be the “heavier weighted” and more point-value questions. Don't make the mistake of blowing it off.

    To all who passed BEC

Which study material did best prepare you for BEC, specially COSO stuff??

    Is Becker best for that?

Although I found Wiley (book) and Gleim (book & software) good for Audit and BEC calculation questions, neither helped me at all with COSO/internal control questions on my last BEC exam.

I've never seen any of the Becker review materials, so I cannot compare.

    I'll appreciate your input.

I really need to pass BEC next time.

    @ Happy

Hmm. I'm interested to see what people say for this. I didn't think the Becker stuff on COSO was that great. It was very lengthy, but I felt that with the COSO questions on the test, it was unlike anything I ever saw in a book or in a practice MCQ. It didn't feel like it was something you could just memorize a shortcut for. I think you really have to make an effort to learn the differences between the COSO categories so you can use judgment on the actual test to say which one best fits with the situation described. That's the way I felt with a lot of the non-calculation BEC questions actually. You just have to use what you've learned (theory-wise) to pick which answer “best fits”. So I guess the advice would be to treat it less as memorization, and more like understanding the theory / concepts, so when it comes down to it, you'll be able to use your best judgment.

But honestly, the only reason I got those COSO questions right is probably b/c i'm an auditor and I have to fill out useless forms about COSO all the time.
