Nervous About BEC

    Hi Everyone!

I am new to the forum, and am preparing to take my first section of the CPA Exam. I’m scheduled to take BEC the end of the month. I’m preparing for BEC using Becker, and I’m worried about how unfamiliar I am with the content. I’m getting about 50% of the MC’s correct. I follow the lectures well, and take notes, but the sheer volume of content is overwhelming.

I’m studying about 25 hours a week, and will cover all the Becker material before the exam. I’m pretty well through 2 of the 6 modules, and I feel like I already have so much to re-study. My total study time for the exam will be around 95 Hours. I’m worried that I’m not going to be sufficiently prepared. Those of you who have taken BEC, I’m interested in your opinion – and I guess, your reassurance : )

    Thanks!

I can understand the overwhelment you feel. Not to discourage you but I did fail BEC with a 70 on 10/31, (second attempt is on 1/8) and I felt confident that I was well prepared. I walked out of the exam thinking I did well. It was a hard exam but I thought I passed for sure since I studied so much and felt good about.

On the brighter side, going through the info first time around is usaully always overwhelming. Dont be discouraged because of your lack of unfamiliarity with the topics, you are learning them, thats why you have the study materials. It is better for you to not know something while u are studying then realize it when you are taking the exam. You will just have to review key topics after each chapter. I think first time I studied for BEC & AUD, I had really bad headaches because it just seemed so hard lol. But just try to “review” any chance you get to reinforce material. And do the mcq as much as you can, you will be surprised how much the info will stick with you. I would always take mcq notes for when I got a mcq wrong.

Also, (as with all other cpa parts) pay EXTRA ATTENTION to the wording of the problem, the details. I would say that about 30% of my wrong hw mcq could have been avoided had I been more careful & attentive to the details/question. For me personally, I feel like it is more easy to make careless mistakes with BEC (i.e. math errors, not addressing the correct component of the question,) Who knows, maybe I made a few careless mistakes on my exam resulting in a fail of 70.

They say a positive attitude helps on the exam. BUT who knows, I am panicking myself about my exam on 1/8 lol. I REALLY HOPE I PASS THIS TIME.

    Good luck to you!!
