My exam plan…any feedback?

I need some feedback on my plan….you guys have been a great source of information.

I took Auditing on 1/18, should have the results Monday. Deep down I feel I might have passed but who knows.

I am currently studying for BEC with it scheduled for 2/27. If all goes well, this will be the only part where I have to study while waiting on the previous test’s results. I find that the worry about my Auditing test score (and the ramifications of a failing grade on my schedule) to be a great hinderance….almost as much as the fatigue from getting up early and staying up late to study. I’m giving it my all but with the craziness of my life and my new career, I’m wearing down quickly. A good grade on auditing will give me a jump start and a failing grade will likely make it worse.

After BEC, I will take a break during tax season (also quarter-end at my full-time job) and pick up studying again around April 15th. This will give me some time to sleep late and play with the kids to make up for my absence. I plan to take REG (will schedule it on Monday after my Auditing test results come in) on May 29th. I will be just out of tax season so much of my REG exam will be fresh in my mind.

Lastly, the beast FAR. I will likely begin studying for FAR in mid-June after another break. That would give me June, July and most of August to study for FAR (excepting a week for a beach vacation). I’ve been out of Accounting (public anyhow) for years now so I need to probably spend a lot of extra time, especially on the gov’t accounting pieces. I’m planning to treat FAR like a college Accounting class as opposed to a cram session. I’m looking at the end of August for my exam.

The 64,000 question is this….how to handle any parts failed. My thinking and hope is that if I am going to fail a part, it will be FAR. If I fail FAR (since it is the last exam), I will just continue on. If I fail Aud, BEC or REG, what to do then…..try to fit it in with limited re-study during a break or just move it to the end? I can see reasons to do it both ways.

    Anyone have any ideas…thoughts….etc.?

@CPApending. I think your plan looks good.

BEC will actually be the first exam I take. I'm scheduled for 4/2/12 and based off of what I'm reading; I almost think I'm spending too much time studying. I just want to be sure with it being my first test and I don’t want to screw myself by not giving enough time. My initial plan was to take it on 2/29 but I chickened out :).

After BEC I figured I'd tackle AUD by the end of May and take on the BEAST FAR at the end of July. Then REG early October. Again, I feel like I'm giving myself way too much time for each exam (2 months) but I just want to be sure that I don’t cheat myself on study time. What do you think?

Ugh. You guys can plan until your blue in the face. My experience is that one exam may be “easy” for everyone else, but you might find it difficult. I have a friend who is on her 5th AUD attempt and I've passed the thing twice due to losing a credit… who knows?!?

I had it all mapped out, but things didn't go as planned. I would recommend moving forward between exams, don't worry about if you failed, just move forward and get something accomplished then circle back.

    FAR - 79 (2x)
    AUD - 81 (expired), 77!
    REG - 74! omg (3x) 87!!!!!!! I'm done! OMG!
    BEC - 81 (4x)

Looks fine to me. Your situation was similar to mine. I passed two parts in 1996 and then let them expire. When I decided to take it again starting in 2010, I spread them 3 months apart, passed the first three parts on the first try, took the summer off, and then passed the last part. If you miss on the first two, then you basically starting over in May and then Aug. If you seriously only study one section at a time for 3 months, you should pass. I think some people try and bunch them too close together. Then two years later, they're still rushing to finish it before one of their passes expire.

@Count It I think you are right. I look at the time frames that people are taking these exams and it freaks me out. Two exams in a month?! That's impossible with my family/work life. But…on the other hand…I know you gotta do what you gotta do. Good luck to everyone!!!

    Sounds like a plan!!!

The outcome of your plan will depend on your results and commitment; I guess nobody wants to be on this process for too long.

I was planning the same, one part per testing window, but since I failed FAR with a 74 I re-took it back on 1/16……now waiting for scores. In the meantime, I decided to take advantage of my time and scheduled BEC for 2/19.

    Done 😉
    Class of 2012!!!!
Lots of prayers and hard work....
