Merry Christmas or . . . Not soo much!! (BEC advice needed)

Just took BEC for the second time 12/8/16. The first time I took BEC 1/8/16 started studying 11/2/15 up until the date of the test and scored a 50. I watched the videos, read the book, did the homework problems, and review MCQs leading up to the test.

This second time around at BEC I started studying mid to late Oct. 2016 and just hammered out MCQs and paid no mind to anything less. I was scorring any where from 85 to 95 on the quizzes. I took the time to read each explanation to each question. I felt better this time around but I don’t feel like it was enough to pass the exam. I have tax season right around the corner and if I do not end up passing when I get my score tomorrow, what should I do and how should I study if I want to take the exam again at the latest late Jan. 2017?

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Using Rogers CPA study material.

    BEC – 50 (1/8/16) 2nd take (12/8/16) 3rd take if need be (1/15/17 -2/1/17)
    FAR – Near Future
    AUD – Near Future
Reg – If I pass BEC on the 2nd or 3rd try, going to start studying REG during tax season and hit the books hard after April 15th and take exam mid or late May

    Thanks!!

Do you know whether you passed the second time or you are just trying to hedge your bets? I am studying with Becker and supplementing with Ninja MCQ-I think they really help. a bit of different flavor to Becker.

@amjst23 – Even if you didn't pass this time out, it still sounds like you need to take notes on the MCQs you get wrong/guess on. Don't just read the explanations, write out how to get to the right answer as if you're explaining it to someone else.

wombataholic's advice is sound. When I started reading this forum I saw his post about how he studied and mirrored the MCQ process.

I do this for every question I get wrong, as well as the ones I get right but am not 100% sure about. Hasn't failed me yet.

I’d say to try spending a little time on the front end to figure out your weakest areas and work on those first. It does you no good treating every topic the same, especially if it something you are strong in. When you are studying try to understand why you got question right and wrong, but pay particular attention to those questions you get wrong. Going through material for completeness and quantity should not be the goal because you actually learn little that way. Aim for actual knowledge. So, I second Wombataholic’s advice. Writing explanations down forces you to think about what it is you got wrong.
