    I was wondering if anyone could be kind enough to tell me the difference between these two including

    – Its tone

    – Opening (For example: Do I always need to start with “The purpose of this memo is…”)

    Also, in the WC part how do you know if you need to write a memo or letter? They will tell it in the instructions, right?

    B - 7/1/2011 ---------> 85
    R - 7/28/2011 ---------> 77!!!
    A - 10/30/2011---------> 83
    F - 11/26/2012 --------> 85

    The instructions will tell what type of correspondence you need to write.

    A memo is typically less formal in tone than a letter and often is shorter. However, I'd err on the side of too formal rather than too casual for the BEC exam. You don't need to start with “The purpose of this memo is . . .”, but you should refer to the topic of the memo in the first paragraph. For example, “You recently asked me my opinion about doing X or Y. After doing some research, I've discovered the following advantages and disadvantages of each.”

    FAR 4/1/11 - 89
    AUD 4/15/11 - 85
    REG 4/29/11 - 80
    BEC 5/13/11 - 85
