Lacking motivation for BEC

Hi friends! I have AUD under my belt so far, and I will find out my score for REG on the 28th (luckily feeling confident). I’m scheduled for BEC in August and FAR in December so I really need to keep moving. I started studying for BEC right after taking REG, but I literally cannot focus on this material. COSO cubes? Economics? Do I really need to know this?? I don’t know if it’s a lack of interest or if I’m feeling burned out. Has anyone else had this happen with BEC? What did you do to motivate yourself to keep going? HELP!

I had a very hard time keeping focused for BEC. Best advice is to just buckle down and do it.
Hopefully a passing REG score puts some new wind in your sails.
Try and keep to your schedule. Start studying the same time every night.
I know leading up to score releases I always had a very hard time staying dialed in, but you just need to push through it.
    YOU CAN DO IT!!!

Econ was interesting to re-learn after all those years.

Hello – Yes! I am with you. I am in the final review stages of BEC, and I have found this section to be more challenging in terms of motivation. Wasn't sure if it's because it is (hopefully–we'll see in on 6/28) my last exam.

    When do you take yours?

BEC is a weird exam.. and very weird to study for. Those little nuances are what separate people from passing/failing BEC though. As dumb as that stuff is, it could end up in front of you on exam day.

You should definitely review economics and know that as well as you can for exam day. Also hit IT as hard as you can, I wish I put more time and effort into the IT section of my Becker materials.

IT COSO Econ are all hot topics from the blueprints.

Econ tip. Anytime I had an econ/supply and demand question I always wrote out the graphs. It's far too easy to get things mixed up, but once you put it on paper it becomes much clearer.

UGH. Thanks for the heads up and advice guys.. I'm scheduled for August 3rd but might push it back a week or so. I just want to make sure I have enough time for FAR in December because I'm beyond terrified about that one.

For those who have taken the exam, do they provide formulas for the sims?

I feel this big time right now. And knowing that my AUD and REG scores are somewhere near being posted has me thinking about everything but BEC. Hopefully 2 passes gives me 3-4 weeks worth of boost to fight through BEC and end this torturous cycle of exams.

Yes, they provide formulas for ratios and other pertinent calculations.

I passed first try with about an honest 4 hours of studying. If you're good with economics, have a decent technological understanding, and can write well, I feel like BEC isn't too bad. I was very unprepared but hit the topics everyone was saying to spend the most time in and it worked out. It helped I only recently graduated so econ was fresh in my mind and most of my family works in IT. I looked mostly at the dumb COSO cube and IT stuff.

To the OP, I find that with material I'm unmotivated with I tend to spread the work out more. I study for 30 minutes and reward myself with an hour of freedom or something like that until I get done what I need to get done, otherwise I go insane with how dull the material is.

I also struggled with BEC more than any other exam. The unrelated topics made it difficult to retain the information and affected my pacing through studies – the struggles are reflected in my score compared to my other exams. I think if you pass REG you'll get a boost of motivation but even if you don't just remember all the work you've already put in and just keep going!

BEC is certainly annoying in its own right, but does have the least amount of material.

AUD was also disappointing; I hadn't taken auditing before, and thought it would be somehow really scientific and profound (despite my unfamiliarity with anything scientific or profound).

I had the same issue with BEC. Corporate Governance and IT sections were interesting to me but everything else was BLAH. I kept asking myself why, why? What helped me was that I gave myself only 3 weeks to prepare so I didn't have a lot of time to sulk over the non-interesting parts. FAR and AUD was more interesting to me because it put me more in the mindset of preparing to be an accounting professional. May sound weird but it worked for me. I couldn't imagine taking 2-3 months to prepare for BEC.
