Do the BEC questions get harder? They didnt in 2010 when I took it. Not sure about 2011

FAR was the only test I took in which it was obvious that testlets 2 and 3 were more difficult than testlet 1. I noticed a dramatic difference!

@jjm – I felt the same way as T-rex. The only one where I noticed a difference was FAR, but I passed all of them.

@pshustler – This year the 2nd and 3rd BEC MCQ testlets are supposed to be based on prior performance.

When I took FAR, I definitely felt that the 2nd and 3rd testlets were hard and that made me feel pretty good about my performance.

I took BEC yesterday and I have mixed feelings about this one. I want to say that the testlets were getting harder but there were some easy questions sprinkled in as well, so I'm just not sure anymore. I sure hope September flies.

The classification of medium or difficult is based on the average weight of the testlet. There will be a mix of easy, medium, and difficult questions on each of them. Also, the determination of difficulty is based on what the AICPA thinks is difficult which may or may not be true for you. There's no doubt in my mind FAR got harder. There was 5 or 6 I wasnt absolutely certain I knew on the first section, and I made a good guess on a couple of those. Second section was a completely different story

@kb24 Thanks for the article. I read it ages ago when I was just beginning the application process and I forgot that hard testlets can contain questions of varying degrees. I actually feel a little more at ease. It'll still be a long wait. All I want is a 75. Anything above that is just gravy.

Obviously none of us know FOR SURE which testlets were the ‘hard' ones, but I think the telling sign when you DO get a hard one is that you will start getting strings of paragraph long questions back-to-back. The first testlet, from my experience, seems to be a majority of 1-2 sentence questions.

For me, there were some paragraph long questions, but, there were also weird questions that were a couple of sentences. So, I just don't know. Of the four parts of the CPA, BEC is just a nightmare because is a combination of unrelated different topics. I just hope I passed it this time!
