I feel they two are very similar, and I couldn’t differentiate them by myself. Anyone can tell me the exactly difference between they two?

Well, I am not sure about BEC, but for for the CMA, Gleim says lean is a synonym for JIT. This is also what I learned in my Operations class.

Although I can see some possible differences: JIT could be broader, because it includes the manufacturing restructuring, with Japanese “cells” and kanban “tickets”, whereas lean operations could apply to any inventory situation.

ya…I googled online. They said about pretty much the same thing like you said. I feel both of them mentioned eliminating non-value added activities from manufacturing. But JIT focus on reduction of inventory and suppliers. Lean strategy is trying to avoid all kinds of waste. Am I right?

Yes. I think of JIT as associated with an industrial (more complicated business) focus, with reduction of suppliers, forming partnerships with them, retraining workers to work in teams, zero inventory, zero defects, ideal standards.

And lean operations can apply to any business, no matter how small, with the focus on cutting any and all kinds of waste like you say.

Lean is a general application, say religion in general, and JIT is specific, like a cult 🙂

JIT is like Lean's baby sister. It doesn't go quite as deep as lean does. Here's a good explanation https://www.differencebetween.net/business/difference-between-jit-and-lean/

    FAR- 77
    AUD -49, 71, 84
    REG -56,75!
    BEC -75

Massachusetts CPA (non reporting) since 3/12.
