Got my BEC this morning, and I wasn’t surprised to see ‘ANOTHER’ 71

failed 3 times already, maybe I should leave it to my last section? it’s wasting my time and I don’t want my AUD to expire in 2013

I used Becker, Wiley Test bank, and NINJA notes this time…whats wrong with me?

I would really appreciate it if someone can suggest me an effective way for BEC, I always walked out very confident after BEC, but I have no idea why i could score weaker in all area this time…it’s funny that I got a 71 when all areas are weaker, no idea how the scoring system works. Why not a 50 or 60 but an ironic 71

Jeff, would you consider hiring me if I score 71 again? I read your history and I guess we have similar thinking!

I've gotten a couple 71s as well. Hang in there – there's nothing “wrong” with you! You just haven't found your study method for this exam yet.

I recommend CPAexcel + Ninja notes. I believe it's $265 for one self-study section… CPAexcel really prepared me for BEC. If you get the self-study course, you can print up any of the text that you need to. https://www.cpaexcel.com/courseware/self_study_course.jsp

Oh and I can't say this enough – NOTE CARDS! Make your own. I wrote ALL of my notes on my note cards and then after each section that I studied, I would go through the note cards. Any that I found super easy I would put aside in my “easy” pile. I kept studying until all of my note cards were in my easy pile. 🙂

What areas are you scoring weaker in? I used the Wiley book and test bank, gleim test bank, and ninja notes. Worked for me. I struggled alot with the finance and cost accounting and had to practice those questions over and over under I learned them forwards and backwards.

I used Yaeger. I've passed my first 2 exams using Jeff's advice. I watch all the lecture videos first while taking intense notes. Then I work all the problems that Yaeger recommends from the book module by module. I use these problems as more of a “study” mode….it's the first time through so I try to answer them as best as I can and I read the solution in the back of the book if I got the question wrong or if I just guessed correctly. After that, I just did 20 question mini testlets using the Wiley online database. I kept track of how I was doing on each module and I knew which modules I needed more work on. I started out scoring 50s and 60s, but by the time I took the test I was in the 85+ range. I think I worked every single question 2 or 3 times for BEC. BEC didn't have a lot of questions in the test bank compared to FAR so towards the end I had already seen a lot of them multiple times. I just made sure that I wasn't just memorizing and that I understood it.

The final week before my exam I did EVERY SINGLE question module by module as review. I used 99 question testlets instead of 20 because I believe 99 is the most the Wiley test bank will let you make.

I basically did the exact same thing as RedRage described. Took LOTS of notes!! I also supplemented with CPAReviewForFree questions. Unlike you, Kobe, I did not feel very good coming out of the exam. I felt I did well on the WC and that it might be my saving grace. I guess it helped afterall.

Thank you guys for sharing, the reason why i felt confident every time was that I could do the calculation and i could see one of the choices available for me to pick…compared to becker lengthy questions, the actual bec exam is really really short. and they looked so simple, i guess underestimation was my problem…I didn't want to,but there's nothing more I could do.

I did make my own notes..got a book pad with me. So now I have yaeger and cpaexcel…I wonder which one has a more similar questions with the actual exam

Relatively speaking, i found the grade report is not helpful at all…I saw some people failed because there's one weaker area…so i don't think that's informative….As I can tell, I have straight weaker on area except financial management with a comparable….meanwhile scoring 71? non-sense to convince me. I screwed up WC completely and got a comparable? give me a break!

make sure you identify any “pitfall” answers and how to avoid them. Often people do a problem incorrectly and see that answer as one of the options thinking they did it right. BEC has a lot of these. I made it a priority to avoid this obstacle, it was one of the keys to how I passed my first try.
