    Hey everyone,

    I just got my score back for BEC and got the dreaded 74. I thought I did so well too, it is such a shame to see that I missed it by one point. Anyway I am very stressed out because I absolutely NEED to pass BEC this time because I only have 120 college credits. If I fail again this time, I won’t be able to become a CPA unless I go back to school (which I really can’t afford) Does anybody have any tips for me? I’m using Becker and I know I should really study hard Modules 3 and 5.

    Another thing… how long does it take to get your actual score release in the mail that breaks down your test? I took BEC Aug 31, 2011 and I need to know what sections I really need to study from that release paper. Thanks guys.

    @Kirikr1

    They should send you an email that will include both the score notice and the performance report. At least that's what they do out here in Nebraska. If you just got your score today, which seems odd, you should get the email within a day or two. Good luck in November!. Sorry for the 74 though. That's a tough one.

    Thanks NeCain. I actually got my score online a few weeks ago. There is nothing in my email from the PICPA. (I live in Pennsylvania) Maybe I should give them a call.

    Yeah I would. May not hurt to email NASBA as well. The Pennsylvania coordinator may be able to get something going too.

    Ya study for a 74 like you got a 47!

    If you used becker last time and felt prepared but got a 74, i would switch it up and supplement with something like wiley or gleim test bank. I think the questions are more difficult than becker, but thats good because there will be fewer surprises on test day, and it helps make sure you arent just memorizing answers.

    I agree that you should study all of the material again, but it is helpful to know the areas in which you were weak, especially when you were so close to passing.

    I failed with a 74 last time also….it's awful. I've been using Becker and studying everything- you won't have the same test

    and it's best to be as prepared as possible. Good luck. My retake is next week and I plan to beat the beast.

    I rather get a 15 then get a 74, so sorry that has to hurt more than failing. Obviously you're close so don't give up. Next time it will happen, never ever give in to this monster. Someday when they make the test easier, people will look back and say I can believe what those people had to go thru back then!! The scary part is I know some idiots who passed and I can t figure it out. Probably just have a good memory or are good test takers.

    Yikes. Stay positive and try to look at the glass as being half-full as opposed to being half-empty. I know it's tough but you have to block out all the pressure. And even though you were one point away from passing, you cannot allow that to lull yourself into a false sense of security. Indeed, it should only be used as a means of momentum. And as others have alluded to, study for this exam as if you're taking it for the first time. It's the only way to pass.

    @Kirikr1 – I am in the exact same spot as you. I just graduated from undergrad and only have this testing period to pass one part so I don't have to go back to school. I just took BEC last Friday and am going straight to AUD on November 30. This is giving me two shots to pass a part. I am praying that I passed BEC, but I won't know for probably about a month.

    My advice to you is to study all the material as others have said. Do not pass the ancillary info because that could give you a few extra points and be the difference between passing and not passing. I know that I underestimated the amount of “ancillary” material that I would see on exam day.

    Are you sure you are not grandfathered under the education requirements because you applied before they changed? Obviously the goal is to pass w/flying colors this time, but it sounds like you may be causing yourself unnecessary stress on top of it. I don't think that change applies to those who are already sitting.

    I agree with mla. I was grandfathered under 120 credit hours with NYS since I was already sitting before the requirement changed back in August of 2009. You may want to look into it. Look at the PA board of accountancy. I found NYS on the board of accountany website. If it's still not clear call them!! No need for the added stress.

    Started sitting in May 2002, on and off. But since 2008 I've been nonstop and my scores are....
    AUD - 39, 48, 56, 65, 68, 73, 76!!! (Finally passed in Oct 2011!!!) Becker, NINJA, & Wiley
    REG - 75 (Lost Credit) 72, 68, 73, 75 (Passed again in Aug 2011) Becker, NINJA, & Wiley
    FAR - 65, 68, 75 (Lost Credit) 68, 73, 73, 80 (Passed again in May 2012) Roger, NINJA, & Wiley
    BEC - 65, 68, 71, 72, 72, 71, 76 (Lost Credit)- 70, 76!!!! I AM DONE!!! - Roger, NINJA, & Wiley
    After 10 long years of studying, I AM DONE!!!! Finally a Licensed CPA in the State of New York!!

    @mla, jomarie

    I live in PA and I also only have 120 college credits, so I'm somewhat familiar with the rules that are in set in place for PA, and they go something like this:

    PA passed its rule about getting 150 credit hours (or whatever that amount is) around 2007 or 2008. The rule set in place was that you can still get your license if you have 120 credits as long as you pass one part of the exam before January 1, 2012. So a guy like me, who graduated college in '07 with 120 credits had plenty of time to sit before that rule went into place. Of course, that did not keep me from procrastinating and I did not sit for a section until January 2011.

    oh thanks Piranha, I misunderstood that the rules were just changing now, not that this technically is the end of the grandfathering period.
