How do you all study for the IT section…it’s all gibberish to me. At least all this other stuff I had experience with in college and grad school, but I literally don’t know where to start with IT.

    FAR - 67, 85
    AUD - 50, 68, 79 I'm DONE!
    BEC - 81
    REG - 78

I used a ton of notecards… Memorization and MCQs were the way I score higher than average on the IT section of my test.

Also, I drew a lot of diagrams.

Get the NINJA BEC notes … The IT section is one of its strengths. If you disagree – I'll gladly refund.

@kandis, what kind of diagrams were you drawing for IT? I'm having trouble with this section as well.

PS I also bought the Ninja Notes and I really like them! But I am having trouble remembering ALL the information Becker throws at you. Especially the appendix. Hate that section.

Like I said in your other post, IT is definitely one if Becker's weaker areas in terms of lectures, but definitely not in content. The Becker textbook has everything you need to study in there to do well in the IT section. I would make sure you know definitions, know batch vs OLRT, know the different types of information systems (CRM, ERP, TPS, etc), know about how internal controls / COSO apply to information systems, know the transaction cycles (Revenue Cycle, Expenditure Cycle, etc), know about disaster recovery plans, and know the random definitions in the appendix. I never had to draw any diagrams. Just work lots of practice problems and understand the concepts.

    BEC - 90 PASSED
    FAR - 84 PASSED
    AUD - 93 PASSED
    REG - 84 PASSED

    I DID IT!!!!

IT was my weak area in college and it's strange because I love computers. But I survived BEC somehow. You will too. Don't stress yourself out too much. Just do the best you can.

@ msgolds-totally agree. English is my second language , reading IT is like learning a third language. I typed up 26 pages of notes, and read the chapter. The second time i am reading it, things make a lot more sense. Like system analyst vs computer programmer vs system programmer. 😉

@keelydare1 – I drew diagrams for the different types of networks, I'd draw arrows going from one idea or thing to another… I can't remember specifics but it really helped me learn the flow of IT related stuff. So much of IT is about understanding how different processes are related to each other. If you can remember that, you can answer most IT questions.

I really don't remember BEC but it would be something like:

Business processes payments —> payments are sent and updated to the system immediately —> blah blah blah

or Business processes payments —> payments are processed all at once at night —> ???

Stuff like that. I'm sorry that I can't be more specific, but I gave my notes to a friend of mine who is studying for the CPA exam. 🙂
