BEC is the most inane exam I’ve ever had the displeasure of studying for. I’ve devoted hours of study to the IT section and can’t seem to get anything higher than a 55% when trying to answer its questions. IT, corporate governance, and cost accounting are going to rip me a new a-hole tomorrow

please elaborate hazel… did the review cources did a bad job in preparing you?

rknight21, I thought the review course did a terrible job of covering IT. BUT what I did was I made sure I had a very general understanding of the IT concepts. The day before the test I went over the ALL of the IT questions. I was surprised at how much the questions related to the actual exam questions. It worked very well.

I used Yaeger. Cindy is awesome but she was terrible with the IT. I can't blame her though, its not like she's an expert at it. I studied for BEC for 9 weeks but I mostly BS until the 3 weeks before I took the exam

I used both Wiley and Becker texts and was really struggling with IT just 3 days before the exam. What saved me were the Ninja notes. Jeff does a great job of distilling the important points you need to know for IT. I went over those 2 or 3 times and then did all the IT Passmaster and Wiley test bank problems. I don't think I missed a single IT question on on my exam.

What to look for in studying IT is internal control. Look for things like segregation of POL(programmer,Operator,Librarian), unauthorized access (physical lock, passwords…), Input/output control( check digit, limit test, hash total…). There are other stuff but I would mainly look for thing that relate to control.

There are several points that you need to know for IT. What was confusing me with Wiley and Becker was that there was so much detail, I couldn't see the forest for the trees. Jeff's notes were several pages long, but they covered the important points and left out the rest. Reading those and then doing lots and lots of MCQ to make sure I understood the material helped me. If it was just a few points I'd write them out, but there are several different areas of IT that you need to know something about and I'd essentially be copying out the Ninja notes. I not trying to boost Jeff's sales, but I really felt the Ninja notes helped me a lot. They were useful in the other areas as well, but especially IT.

i am using becker 09&2011 passmaster and wiley 2011…. and kb24 is correct i started going thru the ninja notes this week and thats the best info i have gotten on IT so far. I still believe somethingis missing tho…. whats funny is i believe wiley's AUD testbank had more IT questions thna the BEC..lol weird

UAcpa, I honestly can't tell you. I took BEC several months ago and once I finish an exam I do a brain dump.
