is it worth it to actually practice writing out a WC sim??? my exam date is on the 28th and i seem to be comfortable with the MC, but just started studying for the WC. i watched the becker wc lecture and im just reading each sim answer as pose to writing it out and trying to figure out to master this. Would that be sufficient enough?

I think this is a great question. I'm considering doing the same. It's one thing to read a response and say, “Yeah, I know that.” It's a whole different ball game to try it yourself.

I'm going to try to respond to a WC and review what I wrote.

NIU CPA Review Correspondence is awesome!

I passed all four sections on the first attempt

It's certainly not going to hurt to practice them, but it is really not necessary. Your time would be better spent on topics that you are not 100% comfortable with yet.

I was planning to try one out as well. Do you know if they have them in the Becker Final Exam practice exam? I would guess they do – if not, I will be trying one on my own. I think it depends on what type of writer you are, how quickly you can think, etc. I personally like to have a little practice to hopefully help me be comfortable with the process.

@momto5 yah they do have it in the becker final exam, but i think its self graded. i did the becker final exam 1 and got a 77% cumulative on the mc, didnt bother with the wc. i just plan on reading all of the WC sims answer and trying to figure out the correct format. according to becker “the accuracy of your content knowledge is not assessed, but your response must address the topic. so even if you BS(as long as it relates to the topic) on it but use a correct format grammar etc you should be fine…

I agree 100% with mini, spend your time on other topics that. If you are confident in your writing ability, you should do great. I didn't complete one of the Becker WC's, I just looked them over for about 15 minutes on exam day to get some key points.

@Minimorty im really good at Becker chapters 3 (financial management) chapter 4(it) chapter 5(eco) and pretty good with the coso and decent on chapter 6. i need to focus on strategic planning chapter. not that great with variance analysis i can do dm material usage variance and price, but not that comfortable with the more complicated ones. plan on studying those all torrw evening. i used becker and wiley test bank. this my last exam im making sure i pass this one so i can move on with my life….have u taken this test yet?

@bobooh15 for me English is second language, so i actually need to put in a little more effort into it.

@cpa510 – I'm not sure that practicing a couple of of the essays will help you with the fact that English is your second language. Perhaps it will, but only you will be able to gauge this. If you are having difficulty taking the concept of the essay question and translating that into a concise, three to four paragraph response, maybe practicing a couple will be best for you. The other side of that coin is that realistically your writing is not going to improve by the time you need to take the exam. The MCQ questions are worth 85% of your score. As long as you do well on the MCQ questions and make a reasonable attempt on the essay questions, you will be fine. Yes, I took BEC and passed with an 86.

I would run through each sample simulation at least once. That way IF you get a similar one, you will be able to hammer them out efficiently and effectively.

It's a great way of practicing the correct format and STAYING ON TOPIC.

I didnt practice any of the WC with Becker, nor did I view their lecture or read the 40 or so pages on the WC.. To me it was a waste of time. I felt like I was a pretty good writer from college anyways. What I did do though is the night before, I spent about an hour or so looking through ALL the WC's that Becker had for each chapter as a SIM module. I would look at the opening/closing, and take note of the way they wrote… and I scored stronger on that section.. If you feel like you need the extra practice sure.. but the best advice I can give you is spend at least 50-60 minutes on the WC. I spent about 1hr 15 min, I made sure I wrote a good amount, and answered the question..

REG: PASS || BEC: PASS || AUD: PASS || F: SCORE PENDING..

I would recommend practicing at least one or two…and TIME yourself on how long it takes you.

Some people can read a question and in their heads, come up with a great response. However, when trying to put those thoughts on to the computer screen can be a whole other topic. Some people just have a hard time transferring their thoughts to the screen.

After you finish writing them, see how long it took you to write. Then re-read them to see if actually flows and makes sense.

So practice a few, get used to: typing up a proper intro, putting relevant details in the main body, and finishing with a clear conclusion.

I would say yes if writing is not a strong area for you or if your English/grammar needs work. Practice makes close to perfect. Plus, you will be able to time yourself to see how much time you really need on WC.

    FAR Passed
    REG Passed
    AUD Passed
    BEC Passed

All aboard, this train's leaving. Next stop, TBD!
