    Hi All,

This morning I woke up to wonderful news. I passed AUD with an 84! it was my first shot at the CPA exam. I am very concerned about BEC. I am using Becker and I keep averaging 45% on my homework. I don’t know what is wrong? What suggestions do you have for me??

That's totally normal for BEC the first time through the MCQ's, don't worry. I was in the same boat too. And, in one of the Becker Final Exams, I scored a 67 and my actual score for BEC was 83. What helped me most for BEC was buying the Becker flashcards and making some of my own too, I made tons of my own. Because of all the computations and formulas in BEC, this really helps!

    Good luck!!

    FAR - 76
    AUD - 74, 74
    BEC - 83
    REG - TBD

I'm taking BEC for the second time on Monday. I started off the same as you and when I took it the first time this past summer. I stopped studying after chapter 2 because I was getting crushed by MCQs. It was really frustrating. I ended up getting a super low score. Here's what I've been doing to study the second time around (using Becker):

Read and re-read the text as much as you can to drill down the concepts. Don't watch the lectures (unless you like them). I find that I just zone out and do the motions without paying attention. If you like the notes/ highlights just follow along the e-book when reading.

For the MCQ: The questions IMO really aren't that hard. Run through the MCQ once. Don't worry about your score. For each question you get wrong, spend the time to figure out why you got it wrong instead of moving on. Also before you move to the next question, do the problem over again with the answer in front of you. This helped me learn the concepts so much.

At this point I know what almost every answer is because I've done them so many times, but I still go through the motions to get to the right score. I haven't spent any time working on SIMs. I figure learning the concepts is much more important.

It's super frustrating at first, but now there isn't a section I'm worried about now (except chapter 4 – I can't stand reading about this IT BS, it's incredibly boring). Keep at it, you got this.

    BEC - TBD
    AUD - TBD
    REG - TBD
    FAR - 76 (10/19/2015)

I understand this too! I hate the mcq.
I am going to try that @Delawhere. I am really struggling with the formulas. It is hard for me to see low score results, but that is silly of me because the whole point of studying is to improve. but I have been giving up on MCQ because I don't want to see at 50% or whatever. this advice is helpful.

    Aud - 60,70,72,69,80 (2/19/16)

I thought I was the only one. I just started to study today. I have my exam On Nov. 30. Everyone claims BEC is the easiest but it sure isn't for me. I'm ok with calculation based questions but some of the governance questions just kill me. English is my second language and those stupid questions are killing me. But I'm staying positive and hopefully will pass.

    Hey Aguilar9370,

I recently finished AUD and moved on to BEC too. If you're referring to BEC-1 chapter, I am having the same issues. I think it's because in BEC, the COSO/Internal Control framework is from the ENTITY PERSPECTIVE rather than from the AUDITOR'S PERCPECTIVE as it as in AUD. I kept trying at it for a few more days while trying to pretend I had never heard of the mnemonic ‘CRIME' or the ‘Components of Internal Control' and I found that it helped a lot. I guess my advice is, to review those early frameworks in BEC so you don't try to automatically go for AUD-appropriate answers. Best of luck.

While many people on here will say to really know the formulas I think that is a crap shoot and you should also know the conceptual stuff as well. I studied hours and hours on variances but maybe had 2 questions related to calculating them… was a little disappointed as I figured it would be a major part of my exam. I had a lot more conceptual stuff but maybe mine was the abnormal test I don't know.

I pretty much winged the WC and after getting back from the test realized one of the ones I wrote about was completely on the wrong topic..

You better know COSO though.. Man, i think about 15% of my MCQ were related to COSO..

In the end I ended up with an 80.

First go at the CPA! Only using Becker
    Reg / Nov 2015 - 87
    Far / Apr 2016 - 79
    Bec / May 2016 - 80
    Aud / Aug 2016

Don't take any subject lightly. BEC is completely fair game. You can get the IT test of death, the calculation test of death, the econ test of death, etc. If the tb offers you tables, know how to calculate whats in the tables. Don't worry too much about WC, light review the day before or day of will get you there. I hate BEC 🙁

    AUD - 1st - 60 (12/12), 61 (2/13), 61 (8/13), 78! (11/15)
    REG - 55 (2/16) 69 (5/16) Retake(8/16)
    BEC - 71(5/16) Retake (9/16)
    FAR - (8/16)

@Trele6 I appreciate the fact that you still come on here and provide guidance to us all consistently even though you are done with this nightmare your input is still helpful.

    @Aguilar9370
I scored a 61% on my first Becker quiz and I feel like I need to re-read the section. My first quiz was 87 questions and I am not use to scoring that low for one section. Now I am going to re-read that section.

@BirdmanCPA I find myself picking audit answers as well which is throwing me off.
