How much time and effort are you putting into studying IT for BEC?

I find this topic extremely dry and boring.

My review material is extremely specific with the materials and I frankly find myself being bored to death.

I kind of just want to glaze over it and understand the key concepts whilst not spending too much effort memorizing every small detail but I worry it will be a significant part of the actual exam.

Thanks rb2017 for your post. Your score certainly proves your “theory” 🙂

I just annoy my husband to no limit by asking him IT questions. He works in the IT field and any time I ask him anything, I get pretty much the same response, “Why do you need to know this? I will never ask a CPA for any help related to IT etc ” (better I do not disclosed his exact language lol)

I must take and pass BEC in Q4 in order to save my credits. Thank you again for your advice!

Did you take the exam after April 1, 2017?

rb2017 that is precisely what I plan on doing. I will get the key concepts down and understand at least what my own review materials are giving me but won't stress about super detailed items like the five levels of programming and the differences between them but on big ticket items like COBIT, Information security, contingency, transmission, and Business world applications.

@rencpa I passed in Q2, but I also took the exam prior to the changes. I'm not sure if you've taken BEC after the changes but I kind of preferred it with the sims. They weren't as bad as I thought they'd be. I also used the same writing format as Big Mike. Even if you don't know the topic, at least re-state the question with proper grammar for a couple points haha.

Good luck to the both of you!

Thanks rb2017. You gave some valid points. Even though I thought about some things, it is always better to hear them from somebody else.

As you, I am also using Becker. Personally, I like simulation questions more than MCQ (except on my REG when they were from nowhere, but thankfully I passed). Speaking about the WC, I am scared because I cannot write when I am tired. And this is how I feel at the end of the exam. Plus, English is my second language. Anyway, I will try my best even though the material for BEC is the most challenging from all CPA exams (at least in my case). Thanks again!

@public sector, good luck! When do you take your test?

I take my test on November 25. I hope I pass.i did pretty well on audit and far but I studied like a madman for those. For some reason, I'm not as motivated to study Bec as I was for far or audit.

But I have a good feeling since my undergrad was in economics, corporate governance and audit were among my favorite courses and there seems to be significant overlap between Bec far and audit.

@public You are lucky that you like the material for BEC. This should make your preparation easier. The motivation is going to increase as you start getting closer to the exam day. I strongly dislike the material, but I am studying little by little.
