How many study hours for BEC?

    Hi all

I need to plan my study time this fall and with full time work I think I can come up with a maximum of 130 study hours for BEC. Is this enough? My planned approach is to read all Becker chapters and do the Becker MCQs right after, with 6 chapters I hope I can do that in 75 hours), and then spend the remainder of time on review of my notes and NINJA MCQs (so 55 hours).

Is this doable? How many hours did you spend on your BEC study?

I'm still waiting on my score, but I spent roughly 75-80 hours on BEC just using Becker

    AUD 4/4/2014 - 97
    FAR 5/29/2014 - 97
    REG 7/10/2014 - 90
    BEC 8/1/2014 - 89

I spent 95 hours for BEC- doing live class for Becker and supplementing with the online Becker lectures as needed. I made flashcards after every section and then quizzed myself before doing the homework. If you have time to do that, it's definitely the most effective way of studying. Also working 40 hours a week and I studied for about 6 weeks, so 130 is def doable!

Because BEC is so much more comprehensive, I have put in more hours studying than with AUD. It will probably be somewhere around 140 hours or so… So I think 130 is completely doable!

    AUD - 99
    BEC - 97
    REG - 91
    FAR - 1/8/16

I probably only devoted 50 or so to BEC. If I remember correctly, you are in Europe. If you have to fly over here to take the test, it may be in your best interest to stick with the 130. It's lower stakes for me. I live 30 minutes from three different Prometrics.

Okay, so I was trying to test by the end of August. I had some things that kept me from studying as much as I needed to the past few days, so I'm pretty behind. Question: Is there any way at all I have any business trying to get enough studying in between now and August 29 or 30 in order to test on one of those two dates? Is this even possible? I'm willing to push it to get this done, but also do not want to spend the time and money on the testing fee only to really have not given myself enough time.

I keep hearing from a friend that I should be able to work practice problems between now and then and be able to pass. Thoughts? Thanks in advance!

    Ag12thman-

You have plenty of time. I did it soup to nuts in 4 weeks and didn't study at all on the weekends.

    Thanks for your input.

Yeah, I'm in Europe, so with the time for travelling (I normally go for a week to first get rid of jet lag before taking the exam) and the amount spent on tickets, hotel, food etc. (paid by my employer, thankfully), I just need to be a little more confident in passing, than most others here living close to a prometric.

    Krokofilen-

That's what I figured. You should be fine with 130. There isn't that much material with BEC. What is in there is a piece of cake.

If you're pressed for time, I wouldn't spin wheels on the essays. They are really easy and are not graded for accuracy. Just pay close attention to the intended audience and tailor your message appropriately.

The meat of that test lies in the MCQs.

I would say about 80 with Becker.

    AUD-84, REG-75, BEC-84, FAR-77

    Part 2 - Passed
    Part 3 - Passed

    billbrasskey,

Thanks for the response. What would you suggest I focus on the most the next three weeks? I have Becker materials.

    Thanks again.

    Ag12thman-

Is it for BEC? I took AUD on August 4th and I'm going to sit for BEC on August 31. I use CPAexcel and so far the first 1/3 is Internal Control and Economics which I have blown through in about 15 hours. I plan on studying about 80 hours total and spening the bulk of the time on Finance and Cost since I feel those are more challenging areas.

If you got a business administration degree (in accounting) econ and the global stuff should all be review.

I stay after work and put in 3-5 hours a night and will do about 5 on Saturday on Sunday. So about 25-30 a week for 3.5 weeks.

    FAR - Passed (2/14)
    REG - Passed (5/14)
    Audit - Passed (8/14)
    BEC - 8/31

I did about 100 with Becker. A friend of mine did, like, 40-45 with Roger and got an 89. You don't need to study a ton.

    QUALITY over QUANTITY people.

With that said, I start BEC on Monday with a test date of the 29th. I haven't started work yet.

Approximately 80 hours with Kaplan book, lectures, and test bank, but I have 2 business degrees so there was very little that I hadn't seen before.

CPA Exam - Finally DONE (November 2014)
    BEC (08/10/13) 80
    AUD (08/24/13) 65 (11/13/13) 85
    FAR (04/12/14) 81
    REG (07/19/14) 69 (11/29/14) 87!!

It completely depends how much you already know and understand the material.

This stuff is very new to me. Didn't learn much in my cost accounting class, and I took economics and computer classes, many, many years ago.

So, I'm putting in much more than the 130 hours mentioned above. And, I'm still not comfortable with the information.

I'm probably the odd ball, since most people seem to be fresh out of college and just learned this stuff “yesterday”, so you can use others' feedback as a basis, but everyone's experience will vary widely.

I say – don't underestimate BEC. I saw another post on Another71.com where someone said they passed all 3 other sections on their first try, but they are studying for BEC for the 3rd time. Yikes!

    FAR - 86 - 2/27/14
    AUD - 75 - 5/29/14
    BEC - 80 - 8/31/14
    REG - 89 - 2/27/15
    Praise Jesus! I'm done!!
