Hi, I currently have BEC as my last section. Anyone knows what are the focuses for this section?

I have AUD-89, FAR-90, REG-93, I want to take a risk to skip the writing communication, LOL…is that possible??

Study everything. That's the only answer anyone can give you without breaking the disclosure rules.

As for skipping the WC – that seems like it would be really risky. BEC is 85/15 (MCQ/WC) – why would you want to just not answer questions that make up 15% of your grade. That could be the difference between a pass and a fail.

Agreed. This is no exam for the lazy man, and judging by your scores so far you don't seem to be lazy! If by “skip” it you mean not study for it, well that's up to you and your strategy. But I would at least work on putting something down, even if you are stumped and just want to BS your way through it….

All depends on the person, I love Econ, my undergrad is in Finance, perfect score on GMAT's AWA and I have an MBA. Between the lot I felt like I had good coverage going into it; I studied two weeks, went to Great America the day before the exam and got an 88 >=)

I felt like BEC is a very broad, but mild topic. I had a hard time with Audit as its a single topic a mild deep, whereas BEC felt more like a mile wide and a foot deep–a little econ, a little finance, some general business topics, a nice chunk of writing…

I actually worked extremely hard on these exams, using only $50 worth material, no review classes. The truth of skipping the writing section is my writing skill is super suck, English is my second language

My former CPA Professor at college actually asked his students to disclose the exam content by emailing him,

You should at least give it a shot. You won't lose points for answering, but you might at least get some points by trying to answer.

And that's extremely inappropriate of your professor. I'm really surprised.

    @JoeL,

hey, you are writing here alright, so take a chance and put something into w/c section just in case.

bwt, English is my second language as well and I plant to prepare EXTRA thoroughly for writing portion knowing my weakness, I guess different folks have different strategies.

I would not skip the WC, its easy and a guaranteed 15 points once you master the format. I honestly would have failed if I skipped it. I know for a fact I got full credit, crushed those memos.

omg to skip a section that's worth 15% i wouldnt dream of it!!!

infact i'v schedualed it in my review multiple times. i'll be studying written communication after the end of each modual and how it pertains to that. ESL is no excuse!!! we'r all improving our written/spoken communication just by studying for this monster!!!

BEC is really sh*tty compared to the other sections. Study everything really hard. Unless you're an IT person from the 1990s, you're going to have to learn a new language with the IT section alone (1990s reference side note: can anyone tell me why they test on things list magnetic tape storage and CD-Roms? database querying? Seriously, do people/companies still use these items??) Tons of math – know how to do it all! DON'T skip the WC! That's a great way to lose huge points. Just leave yourself time to write clear and concise memos but don't spend too much time “studying” them or practicing how to write them in your overall BEC studying.

As mentioned by someone else, your other scores are indicative of genius or super great study skills! So despite my grumpy cat blurb above, you'll probably do fine! 🙂

    REG - 65, 70, 80!
    BEC - 35, 62, 79!
    AUD - 73, 75!
    FAR - 65, 73, 70, 75! DONE.

i didn't practice the written communication at all. i briefly skimmed what becker had to say about it and focused all my time on the material. just be honest with yourself…..if you haven't been exposed to professional writing in the real world or you know you're just not good at it, practicing may be the way to go. i thought bec material was somewhat difficult so i wanted to focus all time on that.

it looks like you have really good scores, so whatever you are doing is working. my advice would be focus on mcqs and the material, maybe take a couple practice communications, and call it good.

(don't judge me on my writing skills from forum post….i could care less if its professional on here)

Judging by your scores, you seem to know what you are doing with this test. I studied the multiple choice questions very well and did not waste much time with the written communications. I just had a format in mind by looking at a few samples of what were considered to be “good” responses, went with it, and did not worry very much. Obviously you can pass without doing the written communications, but do you really want to take that risk with having only one section standing between you and being finished with this thing?
