How do I get through the boring stuff?

I passed FAR in October and really didn’t have much trouble motivating myself to study, partly because it was my first test so I hadn’t lost any steam yet, but also in part because I like the subject matter of FAR.

Now I’m studying for BEC and I like the economics and finance related topics, but the internal controls and IT stuff is killing me. I had forgotten how much I absolutely hated my MIS classes.

It takes me at least 3 times longer to get through the topics I don’t like and it’s throwing me off schedule (trying to get through everything before Christmas, then taking it January 4th). Any advice on how to just crank it out and get through it?

Just tell yourself that if you don't focus the first time around that you're going to have to suffer through it again. REG was the only thing halfway bearable to me.

If you passed far in October… what's taking you so long to get through BEC? Should have taken it by now IMO.

Just wait until Audit – SO Boring. Definitely easier material in Audit (vs FAR) but I found it stupid boring. Just Grind through it and read it out loud. Reading out loud helped me focus on Audit. Goodluck!

@Over_It – My original plan was to take it this week, but a lot of little things came up and I thought I would be much less stressed if I just pushed it back a few weeks. I don't work in public so overall I'll be less busy at the first of the year than I am now to crank out REG by March.

@cpa4928 – I have a feeling Audit is going to be the death of me. And unfortunately I'm taking it last so I can get BEC and REG out of the way before the changes. I've found that when i have numbers, formulas, graphs, calculations, etc. I do just fine studying. When I just have to sit there and read and memorize a bunch of stuff that's when I start going crazy! I may have to come up with another strategy for Audit to prevent myself from literally going insane.

Sorry to disappoint you but that is what AUD usually is. It is purely memorization, though, if you want to pass it, I would make an effort to understand the concepts. Makes life a lot easier.

AUD was sort of dry but not quite as bad as business law in REG. I read the textbook out loud to keep from falling asleep or switching to a wikipedia article on lemurs.
