I’m using Gleim’s book for BEC right now. I didn’t subscribe to the full course, I just have the book, which contains like 30 MCQ per chapter, plus some SIM questions. I didnt’ go with the full course because I have Roger’s test bank and vids ($2,000’ish so not looking to drop more $$ yet). I was just wondering what people think of Gleim for BEC and if you really liked it? Some people have said that Gleim is too stuffy. I kind of agree, and that’s why I didn’t buy the full course. But, I like Gleim’s books more than Roger’s (which I did not like for FAR and AUD, and seem more cut out for advanced students who don’t need much of a review.)

I am contemplating using Gleim for REG too. Anybody particularly like Gleim’s REG and pass on 1st try? First-try pass for BEC as well?

Gleim wasn't bad for BEC…if you use them for Reg, i would recommend no less than 3 months. They load up Reg more than FAR, especially with the Enrolled Agent questions. Aud and BEC were both light, despite the CIA and CMA questions. Unfortunately, I didn't get any first passes and had some major bombs with Gleim, used them for every single exam in my sig. Others have had near perfect scores with Gleim. Could just be me…idk

@mtaylo24 Everyone reacts differently to these exams – it could be that you got a bad batch of questions on a lot of your sittings, that didn't really test what you'd studied hard on. The more I read about people's experiences, the more I am convinced of the random aspect of the CPA exams. It's just impossible to compare oneself to any other test taker.

Gleim's BEC seems like it's way more thorough and complete than Roger's. I studied Chapter 1 of Roger and just gave up (switched gears and did AUD instead.) His BEC book is way slimmer than Gleim's and it does not cover nearly as much ground. And, he's known to not be good for BEC. Which I wish I'd known a year ago when I plunked down so much money for his course.

REG – I'm tossed up about it at this point but it's going to be awhile before I even take it anyway. My NTS (for all 4 exams) expires in August and I don't have time to do REG before
August. I am barely gonna be done with BEC. Then I have to re-take FAR (failed in January), before I totally forget all the stuff.

Gleim puts CIA and CMA questions on his CPA review courses? That's crazy. Yeah of course there's some overlap but c'mon, if the question isn't specific to CPA, don't recycle it.
I know Gleim has been out there for longer than the vast majority of us on here have even been alive but you have to keep the review courses current. He probably doesn't think he
needs to do that though because plenty of people still pass using his course.

People do say that Gleim is hell and I've seen a good number on here who said they messed up on the Gleim “Exam Rehearsal” (wth?? lol) and yet still passed the real exam because it was way easier than the Gleim one. Having sat for FAR and AUD now, and having seen Gleim's questions, I'm not surprised that people have a rough time on Gleim and yet still pass. Even though your scores aren't amazingly high, you've improved consistently.

@mtaylo24 – thanks for your reply. I posted a more extensive reply, but for some reason it's not showing up on my end, like it got deleted by the forum or something.
In a nutshell, I totally see where you're coming from. These exams are hell for some of us, and not hell for others. Looks like you've steadily improved over the course
of your sittings so that's something to be glad about, and you're just about done it looks like.

I used Gleim's test bank for my REG retake and I'm convinced it's why I passed. Their sims are the closest to the exam that you'll find and the AL is identical to the real thing.

The only thing I'd be wary of is getting too caught up in some of the details and focusing on things you probably don't need to know. The fact that I had already taken REG before helped me weed out some of those areas and focus on the big picture.

@Mtaylo24- How did FAR go? I'll be checking on you come August my man.

@RE2PECT – Glad it worked for you and I see you used Roger too so you can relate. Yes, the Gleim texts are extremely detailed and I know they present some rather useless things that seem more like stuff that would be studied for a college exam rather than the CPA exam. Last year I looked at Gleim's FAR text, even studied a few chapters from it. I guess I found it overly academic and wasn't totally convinced that it would help me. The videos of Gleim were what tipped the scale (and made me buy Roger, whose videos are vastly superior.) But, after two sections, come to find out that the vids really didn't teach me much. At least I don't think they did. I am seriously considering using Gleim for REG too (the book only) but it's gonna be quite awhile before I do that, as I am gonna have to re-take FAR and probably AUD before I go on to REG as my last one. What a weird journey this is.

@Re2pect, Felt rushed and missed the research we will see.

@crazyleon, I actually started with Roger. Bought his course back in 2011 whenever I finished my Accounting program, but it expired before I attempted to sit. I did like his book and lectures, but he didn't even have his own questions then. Back then he would select certain questions for you to work out of the Wiley book, he actually put a sticker of his course on the cover of the Wiley book lol, such a waste of money. Gleim was just a supplement then, whenever they offered the test bank and physical book for only $89, you would have to pay another $89 for the sims, and another $89 for the audios, I guess people started passing, so they revised their prices and packages. It was Gleim that got my confident enough to even sit for a section (a whole year and a half after buying Roger), I found that their books had tons of important details that Roger didn't bother addressing, which sure enough showed up on the exam. I can't speak to the current Roger, I have no experience with his testbank, but I did use his cram course whenever I score a 55 in Reg. His lectures did nothing for me and my book didn't even show up until after the exam. I did have the e-book, but I didn't love it because of how it was embedded in his website.
