LindseyMemberI just failed my first exam. 67 on BEC. Pretty frustrating when you feel like you studied your tail off. I am seeking advice from those that have had to retake BEC or those that passed the first time. I obviously don’t want to do exactly what I did before, but am not sure where to start. I am going to order Nina Notes and add those to my Becker self study. I am going to review everything and then focus on weak areas. I just don’t want to get to bogged down in stuff I already know or waste time. I just feel a little stuck and hope some of you could get me going in the right direction after my first test and first fail.
Thanks so much!!

AnonymousInactiveLindsey- I had a similar situation with Audit. The idea of re-watching the Becker videos made me nauseous and I was frustrated that I followed all of the Becker material, but did not pass.
I wanted to cover all of the material versus falling into the study trap of ‘I just need 6 more points' so I bought the Ninja 10 point combo and rewrote all of the notes. Then I listened to the Ninja audio. It took me a while to get used to it, but it was really helpful to hear someone talking about the material in a condensed format versus the bad jokes in the Becker videos. Then I re-did all of the Becker questions, chapter by chapter. If I got a question wrong or was unsure, I wrote the entire question down and researched it. This helped me actually look up material to overcome my mindset of ‘I've seen all this stuff before'.
You may prefer to use the Wiley test bank instead of Becker. BEC is a really tough test and I had questions that were no where in Becker, so supplementing with another set of study materials/questions is a great idea. Good luck! You can knock it out of the park!

LindseyMember@auslaf Thank you very much. I know for sure I am getting the Ninja Notes, but I am not sure i can afford much more than that, plus the cost of taking the exams. I will definitely rewrite all of the notes and go over and over the sheet I made of formulas, ratios, etc. Then do all of the questions again and again. I, like you, had many problems that Becker didn't have. Thanks for the advice. Praying for a pass next time!!

NickAla73MemberYour situation is so similar to mine, Lindsey, except I scored a 65. I knew I was a little weak in Cost Accounting so I wasn't surprised I scored below average there. What really hurt was scoring below average on the essays. I was so pressed for time, I couldn't really focus and just wrote the first thing that came into my head.
I have a month to study before re-take so my plan is to start with Cost Accounting. I will use my Wiley book but supplement it with an older Bisk version. My plan is two chapters per week hitting the MCQ's hard.
Good Luck!!

AnonymousInactiveI failed BEC in May with a 74 and I lost FAR. I used Wiley book, Test Bank, and Ninja Audio the first time around. I studied and retook BEC in August and got an 85. The score breakdown that the state provides showed me I was weaker in the areas of Economics and Financial Management. The Wiley Test Bank progress report showed me that I was weaker in Risk Management, Planning and Capital Budgeting, and Cost Measurement. I purchased the Yaegar Cram and watched all the videos/studied the handouts. Cindy rules!! I also purchased the Ninja notes – they are awesome!! I again reviewed the Ninja audio and completed all of the questions in the Test Bank. I also used cpareviewforfree.com to add extra questions to my review. I focused heavily on my weaker areas, rewrote the Ninja notes and probably read them about 10 times. Good luck with your retake!! If I can do it, you can too!!

LindseyMemberNickAla73, I just ordered the BEC 2013 Wiley book. is that what you are referring to? I have that plus ninja notes plus my Becker stuff i used last time. Right now I have started the Wiley book but this weekend I plan to come up with a solid plan and follow it until October 4th. Praying I pass! Thanks for your response!!
Dskate3 – Congrats on passing the second time! Hopeing I follow in your footsteps. In my diagnostic report, I was strong in Corp. Governance and IT. I plan to study all the other stuff heavily and then review my stronger sections. I also need to make sure I do better with the writing sections. I don't think I wrote quite enough. ;( Thanks again for letting me know your study plan!!

NickAla73MemberLindsey-I am using the Wiley 2013 book supplemented with an old Bisk 2010 book I just found along with the Ninja notes and audio. I have a Wiley test bank but I'm not sure I'll get to it. Good Luck!! Cost accounting is killing me.

Jennifer241Member@Lindsey I got the same detail on my score report. comparable on both corp gov and IT, stronger on written.
I plan to rewatch all the CPAExcel video's in 1 week and write extensive notes on them. Then do the MCQ's for the 3 weeks straight in Wiley's test bank. I think that a general overview of all the material and pounding MCQ's will get me over the hump.
