I’m preparing for the written communication portion of BEC. I was wondering what the difference between an e-mail and a memo was. Are there certain formatting requirements for each?

Hey puppy, I don't think BEC test you on “email” format so only memo matters. I think Wiley test bank has examples.

The test usually give you the opening title, so usually you just write your standard 3 paragraphs and say sincerely like you would in a letter.

To: CEO of xyz Co.

I am writing to advise your controls.

What you need to do.

Conclusion.

Sincerely,

First I read each problem and wrote the opening and concluding short paragraph. Then I went back and filled in the middle supporting details. My theory was that at least I would get some credit even if I ran out of time for some reason. Personally, I did not ‘study' memo writing.

I agree with jgh1204 above. Don't make this rocket science. It is only 20% so allot your time accordingly.
