    is it tentative like the others or do the questions remain the same in difficulty regardless how well you do on the first testlet?

    Does BEC adapt like the other sections? I thought I heard in the past that BEC was the only test that didn't… did that change in 2011? I'm kind of hoping it did because I took it today and I felt like the 3rd testlet was A LOT harder than the first two. Hopefully that's a good sign.

    AUD 5/3/10 - 88 (Expires 11/30/11...tick tock...)
    FAR 8/26/10 - 78
    REG 5/9/11 - 79
    BEC 8/11/11 - 74.......B*TCH

    wow…I didn't feel like the testlets got harder. However, I know that I was getting at least 16/24 questions on each of the first two testlets correct

    WTF IS GOING ON????

    @khachik

    The difficulty of the testlet is based on which questions the AICPA thinks are harder. You may or may not agree with their assessment. Also, if you read their explanation of scoring, a medium or difficult testlet is a measure of the average difficulty level so some questions will be easier. The only exam where I was certain the testlets increased in difficulty was FAR, but my performance report said that I scored above average in MCQ on all 4 exams.

    FAR 4/1/11 - 89
    AUD 4/15/11 - 85
    REG 4/29/11 - 80
    BEC 5/13/11 - 85

    I know I got all the variance analysis questions correct, are those considered to be the “harder” questions?

    How do you know if the second testlet gets harder?

    @kb24- Same here. FAR was the one where I noticed the increase in difficulty. I didn't notice the AUD testlets getting any harder.

    @cev

    To me, the difference in FAR was obvious because the questions changed in so many respects. Most of the questions were on topics that are generally considered tougher based on what I read in my review text and this forum. The calculations were more complex in that they either required more steps to reach the answer or you had to figure out the answer from information that initially didn't seem to be sufficient. Also, the questions were often wordier so they took longer to read and required you to determine what was the needed info and what was superfluous.

    With AUD there was a change in topics, but they weren't more difficult ones IMO. The calculation factors from FAR weren't applicable since AUD is almost all theoretical questions. Also, I didn't notice a big change in the length of questions.

    My first two MCQ on REG were really tough so that probably influenced my perception of the difficulty factor of the first testlet as compared to the other two. I honestly don't remember much about the MCQ because the SIMS blocked everything else out.

    Again, on BEC, I don't know which topics were supposed to be the toughest so I couldn't judge from that perspective. I felt like I did well on the first testlet so I assumed that the next one was considered more difficult by the AICPA, but I didn't notice a significant difference. The third one might have been a little harder but not by much.

    FAR 4/1/11 - 89
    AUD 4/15/11 - 85
    REG 4/29/11 - 80
    BEC 5/13/11 - 85

    @kb24- You hit the nail right on the head with FAR. That's EXACTLY how I felt. Testlet#1 had easier topics and more straightforward calculations. But in Testlets #2 and 3, the topics got more difficult and the calculations were more complex.

    FAR was the only one I noticed as well, the others were just a 3 testlet blend of the same types of questions, though on AUD I was “weaker” in the MC, BEC and FAR “stronger” and REG “comparable”. Sometimes the testlets dont seem to increase in difficulty simply because you know your stuff.
