Do I have a chance to pass BEC?

    Hi guys,

    I am currently studying for BEC exam and the writing portion scares me. I have passed other 3 sections so far, all in first attempt. BEC is my final one and I do hope I can pass. MCQ in BEC, I feel they are the same as other sections, just hammer on them hard and in a consistent manner and you will get a good understanding. While for Writing portion, I don’t know. I think they are way harder than Simulation. I got stronger on simulations for all other 3 sections. LOL

    Ok… back to BEC, I am a ESL and a bad writer, even writing in my first language. Is there a chance I can still pass? Possible? Apprantly for writing, I can not compete with most of you guys here. I am looking for someone’s help. Any advice and suggestion will be appreciated. Any ESL test takers here, please HELP!

    My exam is on May 28th.

    Good Luck studying everyone!

    I thought the writing portion was a lot easier than any simulation. Here are some pointers that I think helped me:

    -leave yourself enough time to be successful. At least an hour.

    -do not make any grammatical errors and make sure your paragraphs are well written

    -stay on topic and be sure to include those “keywords” the examiners are looking for

    -be able to bullshit your answers because you know they are going to throw some off-the-wall topic at you

    -REREAD YOUR WORK!!! You can catch a lot of careless mistakes that you made. I suggest finishing all 3 memos first and then go back and reread your work

    I did not study at all for the written portion of the exam BUT since English is not your first language, I suggest that you practice and get comfortable with it.

    I am a horrible writer (proof is in my posts) and i passed. You can do it, make sure you include all the keywords from the question in your answer, reread your memos, (I agree with what was said above) write all three memos then go back and re read them. Also I think reading some sample answers is really helpful. I didn't find actually writing the answers helped me. What i did was read the question, jotted down a few things I would write then i reviewed the “perfect answer” to see if i got all the key words and to see the format/grammar ect.

    Know your MCQ, which based on your past grades i think you have down, the writing is partial credit get some points and you will pass!

    A - 61, 91!!
    B - 78!
    F - 76!!!
    R - 71, 73, 74, 69, 77!!!!

    Finally done!

    This is my 2nd attempt at the exam, I had two parts passed (failed many) and I stupidly quit, big mistake. Now I'm back and with a vengeance!

    @Jade

    I just took it today and English is not my first language so I can relate

    I feel good about my MCQs.. I think i did poorly on the WCs, but i did wrote them all.

    One WCs i think i did ok.. second i did something that can get me a few points and in the third one I had no clue of what to write.

    Anyway if you want to feel better think about this:

    your lower score is 88… lets assume that in that test you went perfect on the Simulations. That means having a 48/60 on the MCQs.. on BEC that 80% would be already 68 pts.. and that is assuming the worse

    Keep working hard on the MCQs.. and accumulate as many point as you can in the WCs.. getting 7/15 does not sound as hard as 15/15

    thanks guys for all advice.

    to summary the key points here

    1. including the keywords, stay on the topic

    2. pay attention to grammer and check spelling

    3. re-read the work after done all 3

    4. get partial credit as much as i can

    5. read through samples if time

    5. and I CAN PASS

    @angel,

    Did you do anything specific to prepare WC?

    Only thing i did for the WCs was to log to the AICPA example test just to see more or less what to expect.
