Critiquing my study plan

So I took a few days off between xmas and new years… traveling, etc. I tried to get a little studying in – on and off, but still… I can’t say it’s a huge mistake because I needed to breathe, but its taken me a couple days to get back into the swing of studying BEC. I originally planned to take BEC on the 9th, but 1) its been almost 8 weeks since i applied and my application is still sitting board evaluation – didn’t expect that long. and 2) I am honestly not ready.

So. I devised a plan to get through it all in a decent timeframe. My goal is to take both BEC and REG before Q2 with the changes. So I am scheduling REG on March 10th (last day to take), and I want to make sure I am ready for BEC when I take it, but also still have enough time for REG and not slack like I have during BEC.

So far, here is what I have been doing:
Watch the short lecture in Wiley CPAexcel, and take notes during in – pausing when I need to. Skim the text, since its available right under the video to make sure nothing pops out that he didn’t mention. Then I do the T/F proficiency questions, flip through the notecards without trying to know it word for word, and any MCQ practice it gives. Then I take the lesson assessment of a few questions, usually not using any notes. Then I move on, unless I do miserable on the assessment which has only happened once or twice. I will take random practice test banks after a big chunk of material has been covered too.

So what I was thinking was to continue doing like I have done, because it’s not that time consuming (which also scares me that I am doing that good, hoping I am not forgetting stuff from earlier even though I nailed it – might be short term memory due to small lessons). After I finish, go back to the very beginning and skim through all the text, highlighting anything that didn’t come back to me easily, and that doesn’t feel like ‘duh’ or second-nature to me. Take a practice test, review my highlights, and do some test bank questions on my weak areas, take the second practice test, and review again. This time, review harder. Then a couple days before my exam, take the final practice test, noting anything else i have trouble on so I can review that and work on the writing assessment too.

On one hand, it feels almost like overkill though I am pretty sure it isn’t, and on the other hand I am scared I will end up just memorizing the stuff I did bad on and not actually learn it for the test since the questions will be different.

I think if I take BEC between the 16th and 21st, that will give me a month and a half to study for REG.

    Thoughts? Tips?

I am also taking BEC on 1/21, have studied since November… are you studying full time? I would suggest getting Ninja MCQ for BEC for only $47 it is a great addition to any study material ( I use Becker) and really does give you a different flavor for questions, plus has explanations that are very helpful. I would spend more time on MCQ at this point just to make sure that you are getting to see every kind of question out there. Going through various problems also does help to cement it conceptually. Make sure to read explanations for the ones you get correct to ensure that you are thinking of them correctly and not simply memorizing.
