Crack is wack… And so is the BEC exam - Page 2

I’ve discovered a new form of pain and it’s called BEC.

This bastard frankenstein of an exam (it’s apparently all the garbage from the other exams they felt bad throwing away, plus a few topics that have zero to do with accounting, merged together like a bad photoshopped nude celebrity photo) is probably the most boring thing I’ve ever had to study for in my life.

Listening to Olinto’s puns like, “You down with NPV? Yeah you know me!” and “I guess size really does matter..” makes me want to throw myself into on coming traffic.

I would rather stab myself in the eye with a folk than hear him say “Y’all” one more time. It’s like Super Mario decided to shave his mustache off and teach accounting. If he ever bought me a cup of coffee I’d throw it at him (not really but I’d give it HEAVY consideration.)

I PRAY everyday that I pass this exam at the end of the month because I’m truely at the point where I’m done. Stick the fork in me, if I haven’t done it already myself, cause I’m so done…

    /end rant

@Kricket – Hoping I can find a job like yours after I get through this. I also live in a small town/rural area and would love a smaller office, although I am thinking I may like taxes better than auditing, but not quite sure yet. Currently work in accounts receivable of a good-sized manufacturing company. Anxious to get to some more comprehensive accounting work.

    FAR - 92 (4/27/12)
    AUD - 96 (7/17/12)
    BEC - 92 (8/30/12)
    REG - 91 (11/12/12)

@Kricket – Why not see if you have any governmental agencies near you? Would you be willing to move? The gov't is always looking for Auditors!! I did an internship, it was very relaxed… but needless to say I love tax, and went Big 4!

I worked for a School Board before I got the job I have now. I won't go back to that environment. I love my job. I'm not complaining about it at all. I have a wonderful boss who is 69 and ready to retire. Once I pass the exam, I can buy him out and it's all mine. I really have a sweet deal so I'm not looking to mess that up. I was just pointing out that, while most people will use most of the information in BEC on a regular basis, I probably won't use a fraction of it. And, no, I'm not moving for any job. My house is PAID FOR! No mortgage payments means I can do what I love to do and not worry so much about making big money. I got offered a job right after graduation at $72,000 a year but it meant moving to Dallas. I crunched the numbers and found out I was better off with lower pay and no mortgage. Besides I love my old house. It's 100 years old and was built by my husband's great grandfather. It's special to me, drafty windows, cold floors and all!

Thats a nice story! Well as long as you are happy with where your at, and comfortable thats all that matters. It also helps that you have no mortgage! You do have a sweet deal waiting for you! Good luck on BEC!!

BEC was by far my least favorite topic to study! I wasn't a big fan of Becker for it either, I'd imagine the 2013 edition is going to be yet again very different… I squeaked by with a 76, if I didn't have good writing skills I would have failed for sure! On to FAR

    AUD: 77

    REG: 78

    BEC: 76

    FAR: November, 2012

I just took BEC on Saturday. I've already blocked it out. What did you guys think of the writing portion?

I'm studying for BEC too and I loathe it just as much. This is my 2nd exam, I took AUD last month, and BEC is so much worse to study. I want to fall asleep during the lectures and I was so mad about all the IT stuff, I just kept thinking WHY??? I have no need for all of these IT definitions lol

    AUD - 80
    BEC - 83
    FAR - 87
    REG - 65, 77 5/28/13

I find it interesting that you think Audit was much more interesting than BEC. In my opinion, audit is far, far more boring. Audit is all primarily memorization. Agreed that IT is the most boring part of BEC, but the memorization involved with IT is the same as the entirety of Audit…

Outside of cost accounting, I hate it, the BEC material is a review of my general business classes from college. I guess I can thank studying Finance and taking extra Management and MIS classes.

NIU CPA Review Correspondence is awesome!

I passed all four sections on the first attempt

I think it may have a lot to do with the instructor. I'm using Yaeger and I miss Gary! Cindy pretty much just reads from the book whereas Gary actually taught. He also made it seem logical so it was easier to choose the right answers (or at least I thought it was. . .find out next week *fingers crossed*).

Hahaha I love this topic! I had the same thoughts until I talked to someone on here about how long it was taking me to get through the first couple chapters in Becker. I forgot who it was *sorry!* but they told me that I need to skim the top, get a good understanding of everything and then hit the review hard for a few weeks. Luckily, I have the Wiley Test Bank which has been a total life saver, with practice exams where you can choose topics and how many questions you want (so key for me, because I get terrible ADD past sets of 20).

Also, the Wiley questions may not be easier but they are more to the point. Because let's be honest, you won't be given ALL those long computational questions Becker throws at you in one section. There's just not enough time.

It's funny because I was doing a progress test in Becker yesterday, and wanted to bang my head on the desk every time I sat through a long question, just to calculate nothing close to the answer and move on to another long, computation. My score was around 55% when I finished. I took one in Wiley, encompassing all topics and zoomed through with an 80%.

I just hope Wiley is more representational of what I will see on the exam. Sometimes, I feel the same way about throwing coffee at Peter Olinto. I think Becker's intent is to waaaay over-prepare you, but sometimes when you have a lot of ground to cover it's no use getting stuck in the nitty gritty.

    B 71 - 79 EXPIRED
    A 69 - 75 EXPIRED
    R 65 - 48 - 45
    F 56 - 61 - 65 - 64

Becker, Wiley Test Bank, Wiley Text and Ninja Notes

Still need 30 more credits, in basket weaving (gotta love new CA requirements)
