Crack is wack… And so is the BEC exam

I’ve discovered a new form of pain and it’s called BEC.

This bastard frankenstein of an exam (it’s apparently all the garbage from the other exams they felt bad throwing away, plus a few topics that have zero to do with accounting, merged together like a bad photoshopped nude celebrity photo) is probably the most boring thing I’ve ever had to study for in my life.

Listening to Olinto’s puns like, “You down with NPV? Yeah you know me!” and “I guess size really does matter..” makes me want to throw myself into on coming traffic.

I would rather stab myself in the eye with a folk than hear him say “Y’all” one more time. It’s like Super Mario decided to shave his mustache off and teach accounting. If he ever bought me a cup of coffee I’d throw it at him (not really but I’d give it HEAVY consideration.)

I PRAY everyday that I pass this exam at the end of the month because I’m truely at the point where I’m done. Stick the fork in me, if I haven’t done it already myself, cause I’m so done…

    /end rant

I feel ya. I'm starting to do my final review and have zero motivation to even get started. What sick bastard puts over 250 multiple choice in one section

    REG
    FAR
    BEC
    AUD

And WHY is almost every lecture 2 hours long??? It's ridiculous…

Tell me about it. I just finished the B6 lecture yesterday. Almost an hour and a half lecture for 25 multiple choice. Most of the time was spent explaining intricate problems that weren't even in the homework. I've been studying full time for 7 days a week for the past two months. Turning on my computer and seeing my becker software every morning makes me cringe.

    REG
    FAR
    BEC
    AUD

Most people are under the delusion that BEC stands for Business and Economic Concepts. I have taken this one my fair share of times and given the volume of useless information in it, I can attest that it actually stands for B*&ch is Ever Changing! Never the same test twice!

@Kricket – HAHAHAHAH thats the funniest thing I've heard in a while… I actually laughed out loud.

I think i've said the same thing you have, BEC is everything that is random, and I hated in school. Its stuff they couldn't fit anywhere.. Hello.. why would a CPA really care about IT?

I honestly pray everyday to get that 75.. I don't think I have it in me to re-study all of BEC

REG: PASS || BEC: PASS || AUD: PASS || F: SCORE PENDING..

BEC has been my favorite to study for so far but I haven't got into AUD yet. I hated studying for FAR (but I passed) and so far I've hated studying for REG. BEC is very straight forward and doesn't contain a lot of little exceptions like FAR and REG. I haven't got my score back from BEC yet but *crosses fingers* I'd be surprised if I failed. I left the test site feeling great but that could go either way obviously. I studied around 180 hours for BEC.

My problem with BEC is that I have NEVER done any of this (insert dirty word here) stuff and probably will NEVER do any of this (insert another dirty word here) stuff. If I need any of this (insert all of the dirty words and make up new ones to insert here) stuff I've got enough sense to call someone who knows it and then I can give a client accurate information. Damn!!!

It's true when people say everyone is different. I found BEC to be the most enjoyable to study for. Maybe enjoyable is not the right word, but I liked learning about cost accounting and return on capital topics, among others. BEC study material was also the shortest, so that may be why I liked it over the others.

I even liked REG, even though I failed the first test. I put in the effort for the re-take and picked up a lot of useful knowledge. For me, it had real world application that I could use.

I did not like AUD, primarily because like Kricket for BEC, I will have the least use for it.

    BEC: 84
    AUD: 89
    REG: 71, 86
    FAR: 80

I actually found the material in BEC to be far more interesting than any of the “boring” accounting stuff

wtf? there is nothing worse than REG……………my head fucking hurts like shit!!!!! I honestly dont know if I'll be able to make it to my exam because I feel some kind of information overload…

Kricket, do you mind divulging what you're specific field of work is? I'm interested.

I hated Olinto's lectures in BEC. Always put me to sleep.

“What sick bastard puts over 250 multiple choice in one section”

    lol I forgot about that.

    REG - Passed!!
    BEC - Passed
    FAR - Passed
    AUD - Passed

Ya I really don't like the Becker lectures on its CD. I went to 2 live classes and they were FAR, FAR better. The live classes are just more inconvenient.

@cardinalhoya I'm a staff accountant at a very, very, very small firm, i.e. one CPA and me! I also live in a very small, rural town. We don't have much industry around here, mainly logging, plywood manufacturing and oil production. Most of my clients are small businesses who have no clue which is a debit or a credit. I have clients who own tire shops, furniture stores, convenience stores, bars (these are my least favorite) and small municipalities. The odd of me ever needing to compute an Economic Order Quantity is pretty much nil. I prepare their monthly financial statements and get them ready for the tax returns. The boss does the returns. I hate taxes and he loves them so it's a fair trade off. I do a lot of governmental audits from July through December. That is my favorite time of year. Seriously, I love auditing. If I could do the governmental audits without a CPA license, I would have never put myself and my family through this hell. I've always heard that if you love what you do, then you never work a day in your life and I love what I do!

I'm sure you are working in a huge firm with lots of really huge clients so all of this stuff is totally relevant. While I'm seriously impressed by people who work in that environment, I know it's not for me.
