    ericdmilhem,

I agree completely. I hear stories from people who only study for 2 weeks or so prior to taking an exam. These people also tend to have to re-take multiple parts…multiple times. If it works for them and they can pass by cramming for 2 weeks, that's great. I'd much rather put in the time, sacrifice my social life in the meantime, and pass it the first time around. I don't exactly have the money to dish out to the AICPA. I graduated college not too long ago, so I'm not exactly rolling in the money YET… =)

Absolutely agree Jeff!! Circumstance changes the exam completely! Bryan and I are a perfect example of that one!

Jeff, I also agree…life can really get in the way. A few of my co-workers are studying to take the exam and I don't know how they manage while being married and having kids. I'm still young…my bf is 300 miles away so he can't distract me…and I live in a 1 bedroom apartment by myself (well, with my cat! haha). I'm just glad that I've started the CPA now instead of waiting a few years…moral of the story!

I have to agree with Jeff. Single people who just graduated college and are waiting to start work have no idea how hard it is to pass the exam with a wife, kids, a full-time job etc. Not that our 75 is any better than anyone else's, but those who are in the married with children situation have a heck of a lot harder time finding good quality time to study, while feeling bad about neglecting the wife, kids etc. Work ethic CAN be part of the difficulty, but for married people or parents (esp single ones) passing the exam has a lot more to do with outside pressures than our work ethic.

It's definitely best to get it out of the way ASAP! Get it DONE! 🙂

But work ethic still plays a big role… You have to make certain sacrifices, suck it up, and do it…instead of making excuses. Regardless of circumstances, it's always easy to come up with an excuse not to study… But yeah, I understand and agree…and now I am just rambling…

Theres ALWAYS something to do to avoid studying. I pretty much had 0 life for 6 months!

…and I'm not making excuses either. There were times where I was just plain lazy and didn't want to study.

I didn't want it bad enough. Once I wanted it bad enough – I PASSED.

That was my story though…it was an issue of work ethic at the time.

This isn't the case for everyone though.

I can attest to the fact that after you get home – spend time with your family – wife and 3 young kids who you try to not make feel COMPLETELY abandoned, by the time the kids get to bed…it's 8:30/9 and you're ready to crash or unwind – definitely not watch an hour or two of Pension accounting.

It was when I forced myself to do that hour or two of pension accounting or whatever – and then get up and hour before work and study – and study an hour at lunch – and get away for an entire Saturday…and listen to lectures on my way to work…and at my desk…and sneak MCQs here and there on my laptop while I worked on a spreadsheet…when I stayed at work an extra hour and a half…etc that I finally did pass.

For some though – it's not about work ethic…that's all I'm sayin'.
