I think the best part of the Gleim review is the Test Prep software, which gives you thousands of questions to practice. I basically followed the Gleim suggested study plan online. After my initial pass through all of the units, I went back and did a second, quicker run through of the units and took periodic quizzes along the way using the Test Prep software.
For the week or so before the exam, I hammered out 1,000+ MC questions and reviewed notecards that I had made. I found it helpful to make 3-4 note cards for each unit with main points or things that require memorization.
I chose to focus more on the MC than the SIMS–I tend to agree with Jeff that the MC concepts carry over into the SIMS, and the MC are worth more overall points so they're the most important to really nail. On my FAR exam, I felt like I nailed the MC and bombed the SIMS (mostly due to lack of time, not a lack of preparation). Practicing all of those MC questions are what saved me.
Good luck!
