MPoni123ParticipantCAcpahopeful – that probably wouldn't be a bad idea! I would definitely do the Becker MC questions as well as the Wiley ones. I actually thought the Wiley questions helped further my knowledge in business structure because some of those concepts I thought weren't really touched upon in Becker. With business structure being 17 – 23% of the exam, do both MCs.
I felt with Becker that they lacked in explaining Chapters 3 and 5 and actually the multiple choice for IT I felt were a little weak. Wiley has waaay more IT questions in the actual book as opposed to having to go to the addendum for IT in Becker.

MagayonParticipantMPoni123,
Hi! I am also using Yaeger for my BEC exam( I actually have the entire Homestudy under them). I am planning to take it somethime this Aug. So, u also used Yaeger, right? What was you study approach? Did you read all the chapters? Answered(how many times) the MCQ's? And how many hours approximately did you devoted studying the section? Thank you and praying that you nail the exam. Goodluck for the result….

MagayonParticipantHas anybody tried the practice MCQ's at cpareviewforfree.com? I am using Yaeger Review and Wiley MCQ's. I am thinking of doing the MCQ's at that site to supplement the Wiley MCQs. Would anybody recommend this study approach? I know questions at cpareview website are quite harder than the ones at wiley as well as on the actual exam( based on my FAR actual exam experience) . I am not sure though if it's advisable to do for the BEC section. Any thoughts would be appreciated… Thank you.

MPoni123ParticipantMagayon – hi! I did use Yaeger for BEC after failing it for the 2nd time using Becker. I honestly have no idea how many study hours I put in! I honestly don't think it was the minimum recommended, but I did get through all the homestudy material and was able to go through all my notes and and redo the Wiley multiple choice questions. (the minimum that Yaeger recommends)
My study approach was watching the lectures and taking down the notes that Cindy would write down on the board (whether she was just jotting stuff down or actually going over MC questions) and then after the lecture was over for that particular section, I would go over all the multiple choice again to see how I did. I did not read all of the chapters. I probably went through the multiple choice questions twice. (don't forget this was my 3rd time sitting for it!)
I just felt that the way Cindy went over the MC questions was enough for me to go over those questions once or twice more on my own, but just review my notes on how Cindy approached the problem. That helped me tremendously! Also, I reviewed the handouts a few times as well and made sure I understood the notes (mainly business structure, cost accounting, and all the finance stuff) I hope this helps!
Thank you for the best wishes on the exam! I hope your studying is going well 🙂

MPoni123ParticipantI just really tried to make sure I understood (and knew) the formulas and how Cindy was using them to solve the problem. With Becker I was just memorizing the answers and felt like I had to revisit sooo many of the MC questions because I did not understand them. The way Cindy taught the material though actually helped me understand the approach from the get-go!

AnonymousInactiveI used Yaeger for BEC. I viewed all dvd's, while taking mad notes, then just did the minimum MCQ, that was NOT covered in the DVD. Then when this was all completed, I read the notes I made and the handouts, then did the minimum MCQ for that chapter, and continud to the end.
For my last week of review, I did 20 mcq quizzes from the Wiley software over each chapter individally, then started doing them on all chapters mixed. I also did cpareviewforfree.com while I had a few spare minutes at work.
I also made a cheat sheet of just formulas, and memorized it before my test.
While my score wasn't as high as some of the others…..I see it as perfect!

MagayonParticipantMPoni123 and CPA-Valenz, thank you for the inputs. Yes, they are of help. At least, I somehow can compare my study approach to yours and then do the necessary adjustments from there. =)

magic_8_ball_did_i_passParticipantWell I took BEC yesterday morning. I wrote down 9 questions that I absolutely didnt know. Just reseached 4 of them 1 right, two were definitely wrong, and 1 i am still unsure of. I had a lot of calculations. Not much on IT. Not much on ch.2 Some on chapter 1. Thank you Lord Jesus Christ!! As p'ships and the like are pretty general. The other 5 questions I am trying to recall from memory as I left the sheet that I wrote on in the lobby of my test at home. I had two reg questions on the exam.

FL_CPA2010ParticipantCAcpahopeful2010: I used Becker for BEC and failed miserably. I am now using Yaeger and have completed the first module and all the questions. I intend to go back and also do all the Becker questions, so I think that is a wise idea. I figure it can't hurt bc it gives you more practice with the MCQ's.

AnonymousInactiveyou know what I noticed for the IT questions in becker and almost completely different than the ones in Wiley. They cover same material but only 2-3 questions are the same.
In comparison, for FAR, Becker M/C's were very similar to Yager's minimum requirement M/C.
I'm doing both set of M/C for IT but they are taking me a while to finish. whew! (and dont forget Beckers additional supplement on their website for IT, even MORE reading. ahhhh!!!)

AnonymousInactiveQUESTION:
i did the MC in wiley book for information system there a group of questions related to internal control (#'s 94- 105, page 103-104 in the 2010 wiley book) and those questions really stumped me. My question is, are the AUDIT M/C (when you study for AUDIT) similar to these questions? I mean, I don't know, they aren't straightfoward, involves a level deeper thinking? I have not taken AUD test yet so now im nervous, thinking I'm gonna need more time to study for Audit when the time comes. I am more of a Tax person and thats my speciality at work. Never done audits or audit dept. Anyhow I was planning 3 wks study for Audit where now I think I need seriously block out 6 wks for audit.

FL_CPA2010Participant@ CAcpahopeful2010: I would def allow more than 3 weeks to study for Audit. I thought that's all I needed after 5 Becker lectures, and you can see below how that worked out for me 🙁 And I came out feeling like I had passed.
REG 79 (Becker); BEC 63 (Becker) 70 (Yaeger); AUD 66 (Becker; 11/30 - Becker); FAR 11/24 (Yaeger/Wiley)

MPoni123ParticipantCAcpahopeful – I would definitely allow yourself more time than 3 weeks. I am in the A & A department (assurance and advisory), so I do audits, reviews and compilations, but also do corporate taxes at work and I gave myself I think 5 weeks (took it in Oct 2009 so don't exactly remember). Internal Control though is a very big section in Audit, so if you are having trouble with it in BEC, I would give yourself time to study that material more in depth when you get to audit. It wasn't heavily tested on my BEC exam, but for AUD you will have to know it!
