I have heard from several people that have taken BEC that Becker does prepare you for the questions on IT. Did anyone else who has taken BEC and used Becker feel the same way? If so, should I still study the IT chapter in Becker? Does anyone have any free suggestions for getting more adequate study materials for the IT questions?

Definitely study the IT chapter in Becker's review book. I did and it helped.

I used Becker and so far BEC is the only section that I passed. I classified chapter 4 (the IT section) as a “memorize” chapter along with chapter 1 and 2 for becker bec. Practice will make perfect in these chapters. Review the material in the book and then apply it or test your knowledge with the MCQs. Like everyone on this forum says, read the correct and incorrect answers. If needed, rewrite or prepare flashcards to help. Good luck!

I would read that chapter front to back at least twice, taking notes along the way. Also, I would go to the Becker KnowledgeBase online and read the extras just for that chapter. It really helps. If you've done well on the MCQs, I would focus on the reading. Good luck.

The Wiley BEC book has a ton of information on I.T. that I think is more relevant to the exam questions than Becker. And there are some chapters in the Wiley audit books that cover internal controls, which is also very important.

    REG 79 (Becker); BEC 63 (Becker) 70 (Yaeger); AUD 66 (Becker; 11/30 - Becker); FAR 11/24 (Yaeger/Wiley)

Definitely study IT! There is a reason it comprises an entire section. I used Becker and was comfortable during the exam concerning related questions. I watched the lectures, completed the HW questions, then in my final review read the entire questions, answered all the questions, and did the final exams. Good luck!

    FAR - 90 7/29/2010
    BEC - 90 8/10/2010
    AUD - 92 8/31/2010
    REG - XX 10/3/2010

I definitely think Becker does a good job teaching the IT section. The thing about IT is that the questions could be really random, and not as exact as say a calculation question. I did the questions in Becker numerous times and actually went back and watched the chapter 4 lecture a second time, without all the highlighting and note-taking. I found I didn't know the material as well as I had needed until watching the lecture again. My MC scores immediately jumped. This was definitely the best way for me to review IT, a topic I was very unfamiliar with before the exam. A solid understanding of the definitions and overall concepts in Becker should be enough for the exam. Good luck!

    BEC 7/9/10: 86
    FAR 8/24/10: 83
    AUD 10/1/10: 93
    REG 11/19/10: 89

I did Becker review and was confident that I nailed BEC. But, when I got my score, I was surprise to see that I did'nt pass. IT was suppose to be one of my easiest section, but it turned out to be the lowest scoring one. I viewed all 5 lectures and did all MCQ twice for each section and was familiar with almost all concepts and still failed.

    BEC 07/29/10 – failed

    AUD 08/31/10 – STUDYING

please let me know, if any other study method that might help me.

The IT questions on the actual exam are sooooooo random. I used Becker but had multiple questions on the exam that weren't even discussed in any of the Becker material. I am so irritated right now.
